NEWS THE DRAGON TAKES ON NEW FORCE STRONGER TURN OUT IN CHINA, HONG KONG AND TAIWAN PAVILIONS FURTHER ADDS TO INTERNATIONAL FLAVOUR AT IFA 2008 By Gary Smith The Chinese consumer-electronics and white-goods industries are out in force at IFA 2008, including major delegations from Shenzhen Province and Hong Kong. A total of 230 exhibitors from China, 78 exhibitors from Hong Kong and 118 from Taiwan are mainly concentrated in Halls 27, 28, 29 and 30. At an IFA Media Lunch, Winchell Cheung of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) welcomed the world’s press to the Hong Kong pavilion. “There is a very good reason for the choice of this location,” he said. “We would like to invite you to see for yourselves the quality and versatility of the products that are being 'made in Hong Kong'. Whether we are talking about cable-free music enjoyment, LCD flat screens or Internet radios, the products being presented here reflect the most important trends driving today's market.” “Our exhibitors here on the joint stand are a good example of the creativeness and international alignment that now characterises Hong Kong companies,” Cheung said. “In order to maintain their competitiveness, they are moving their business activity ever further up the value-added chain and are increasingly developing and marketing their own brands. And this year, we have something special to show you: 'fun electronics'," Cheung added. "The company Blue Box International has already received a number of awards for products with a high entertainment value. For passionate drummers, there is now a spacesaving, digital alternative: the electronic Mi Jam Pro Air Drummer. The drum set, which works without any cables and drum pads, consists only of drum sticks, a pedal and a movement sensor, enabling you to play grooves in the same way as on a complete drum set.” On the global market, Hong Kong is up among the top electronics exporters. Manufacturers have also been able to further consolidate this position in 2008. For several years, the export of electronic goods from the special administrative region has been growing apace, reaching US3bn in 2007 – a year-on-year growth of more than 11 %. In the first half of 2008, there was a further rise in exports of 10.5% to reach US.3bn. Chinese Delegation in Hall 28 and 29 Among the Chinese delegation, more than 30 companies from Shenzhen province are attending this year's IFA under the umbrella of the Shenzhen Wanbo Exhibition Company. The delegation includes Shenzhen CJC Industry Company, which produces multimedia products under the name CJC Brand as well as for Hyundai; the solar-products specialist Green Merit, whose international profile is growing rapidly; and Guangdong Dong Fang Import & Export, whose total 2007 turnover from its range of cleaning products, gymnastic equipment and LCD TVs was US0m. Also flying the flag for the province is Shenzhen Baoan Fenda Industrial, which specialises in a wide range of speakers, including mini speaker systems, iPod speakers and outdoor speaker units, all marketed under the F&D brand; JND Technology, whose LCD TVs range in size from 15- to 52-inches and feature built-in DVB-T and ATSC decoding functions; and the webcam manufac- …/ Cont’d. Page 9 SHHHH!!... WANT LESS NOISE? LESS VIDEO NOISE THAT IS... 78 companies from Hong Kong are taking part in IFA this year, 49 of them clustered on the Hong Kong Pavilion. “This is the second time that companies are presenting their outstanding products in the Style Hong Kong Gallery," Cheung said. "This year we are here with 78 companies – more than twice as many as last year. This strong turnout demonstrates that Hong Kong companies are placing more and more emphasis on the development of brands. Large international companies are increasingly turning to the equipment manufacturers and designers in the special administrative region to have production carried out there under their own names.” He added that Hong Kong is also developing into a centre for design and lifestyle. < Technical and Scientific Forum (TWF) Hall 5.3 (Booth #22) With DVB-SH, thanks to an exclusive error correction technology, the picture has never been quieter! Come to the Alcatel-Lucent booth and see how it works... and learn about all the advantages of the fabulous new DVB-SH Mobile TV standard as it rolls out worldwide.
