www.pelobiotech.com Introduction to our stem cells, media, and tools Classically known for our primary cell portfolio, we also offer the full range of products for pluripotent (Embryonic Stem (ES)) and induced pluripotent stem cell research. Inducible pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) are pluripotent stem cells artificially derived from adult somatic cells by reprogramming, exhibiting the properties of an embryonic stem cell. In 2006, the team of Professor Shinya Yamanaka at Kyoto University, Japan, was the first to produce iPSCs and now the applications of these cells are endless! www.pelobiotech.com 1. RNA Reprogramming iPSCs can be obtained through cellular reprogramming, a process which upregulates different combinations of pluripotency-associated genes in somatic cells to revert them back into a pluripotent state. The stem cell field was revolutionized after the partially reprogramming mouse embryonic fibroblasts into iPSCs. This was done via overexpression of the following four mouse transcription factors: Oct4, Sox2, Klf4 and c-Myc using retroviral vectors in 2006. Now different techniques are used for this application ranging from mRNA-based to viral-based reprogramming. Our partner REPROCELL® has developed non-viral reprogramming systems so the resulting iPS-derived cells can be used in clinical applications.
