Of course, long-time participants use the show to launch new brands, cuvees and packaging, but other, more exceptional launches are marking the show. Just one of these is the announcement by Japan’s Suntory – present at the show for the first time – that it is introducing Japanese wines, made 100% from grapes grown in Japan. These include wines made from Koshu and Muscat Bailey A grapes, which are unique to Japan, and other grape varieties. In our exclusive interview today with Yuji Yamazaki, President of Suntory Wine International, he postulates that while the Japanese wine category is not yet well recognised around the world, or even in Asia right now, the fact that the international wine industry will have the chance to taste his wines and the quality and diversity they offer will lead more people to enjoy Japanese wines in the near future. Other launches are making the news, such as the case of Vinadeis. The company has chosen Vinexpo HK as the location for the spectacular global relaunch of the 125-year-old Cordier (Bordeaux) brand. Of course these are just a couple of examples of the kinds of announcements that are making this year’s vintage of Vinexpo Hong Kong so special!
