Who are we?The Day Hospital is one of NHSOrkney’s rehabilitation facilitieslocated at the Balfour Hospital onWednesdays from 10am -2.30pm.The aim of the Day Hospital is tohelp people live as full andindependent lives as possible athome or in a homely setting and toprovide advice and support tofamilies and carers. The DayHospital provides an environmentwhere people can access amultidisciplinary team of healthprofessionals for assessment,treatment, rehabilitation andmaintenance of their health andfunction.Services we provide :‣ Physiotherapy‣ Nursing‣ Occupational TherapyAccess to other services can bearranged such as dietetics,speech and language, audiologyas required.You will be assessed by therehabilitation team when youattend Day Hospital which will helpus to agree a rehabilitation planwith you. This will guide thetreatment you receive and indicatethe number of sessions weanticipate you will need to achieveyour goals.The Day Hospital rehabilitationteam works in consultation withyour GP and links with communityhealth and care teams in providingcare and rehabilitation.On completion of your sessionsyour GP and other relevant healthand care professionals will be senta summary detailing your progressand any ongoing needs.Examples of what the DayHospital can offer you :‣ General health screening,including blood pressure,diabetes monitoring, urinalysis;‣ Structured individual exerciseprogrammes;‣ Assessment of mobility;‣ Enablement ;‣ Assessment of functionallimitations;‣ Provision of walking aids andother equipment as required;‣ Specialised assessment ofspecific health problems;‣ Falls prevention education;‣ Health promotion educationand advice.
