wyle AJ (Dries) van der Walt gepubliseer. Die van ons familielede wat dit
nie ontvang het nie of vergeet het, kan dit kry van Die Huisgenoot. Dit het
in bogenoemde tydskrif verskyn op 4 Februarie 1939 op p. 33 & 81. Die

THE REQUEST
Dear Mrs. Kitching,
I was given your e-mail address by Rialize Hayes at Middleburg Karoo
Tourism, in response to a request that I made concerning the Van der
Walt museum. Earlier this year when I was on holiday in South Africa
(from my home in the USA) I saw a television program [16 December
2005 - A program demeaning Tjaart van der Walt and angered many Van
der Walts Ed] which dealt in part with the history of the Van der Walt
family in South Africa. As my grandmother was a Miss Van der Walt who
lived in South Africa, I was especially interested in the program. At one
point mention was made of a museum devoted to the history of the
family, on a farm near Middleburg. I believe that museum is where you
now work. I would be extremely grateful if you could please pass on to
me whatever information you might have about my grandmother’s date of
birth, place of birth, parent's names, etc. Here is what I know: Her full
name was Susannah Aletta Dorothea van der Walt, and she must have
been born around 1180 - 1885. She married my grandfather, George
Burvill Luck, in Potchefstroom, probably in 1902 - 1906. My father, the
second child, was born in 1909, and his birth certificate gives the full
names of his parents, and where their marriage took place. Very
unfortunately, George Luck was killed fighting in World War I, and my
father, who is now deceased, grew up estranged from his mother. I
retired last year and have since become very interested in tracing my
ancestors.
