Atrium et la commune de Saint-Josse ont
étudié la faisabilité d’un projet mixte:
commerces, logements, hôtel et culture.
Il fera le lien entre les places Madou et
Saint-Josse.
L’espace public sera repensé en profondeur,
avec la création d’un piétonnier et
d’une nouvelle place publique verdurisée.
Avec cette implantation, les surfaces sont
optimisées et le bâtiment s’ouvre pour
apporter la fluidité nécessaire à la promenade
urbaine.
Situé idéalement entre le centre ville,
le quartier Nord, le quartier européen,
le quartier des institutions fédérales et
régionales et la très commerçante porte
de Namur, ce bout de ville est desservi
par tous les types de transports en commun
et un parking couvert public. Une
hyper-accessibilité qui se traduit, le samedi
ou les jours de soldes, par une fréquentation
élevée des commerces. L’horeca, en
plein essor, mais aussi un grand théâtre, un
centre de conférences, une boîte de nuit,
un club de jazz viennent compléter l’offre
commerciale et démontrer que, de nuit
comme de jour, à Saint-Josse, ça vit en ville !

Sint-Joost is een gemeente waar handel en
traditie troef zijn. Een plaats met een sterke
identiteit. Een smeltkroes van culturen
en gewoontes, inwoners en werknemers,
klanten en nachtraven. Het is een wijk die
leeft, die het stadscentrum verbindt met
de Europese wijk. In de Madoutoren zijn de
kantoren van de commissie al enkele jaren
gehuisvest.
Atrium en de gemeente Sint-Joost onderzochten
de haalbaarheid van een gemengd
project rond handelszaken, woningen,
hotel en cultuur. Dit project zal de verbinding
vormen tussen het Madou- en het
Sint-Joostplein. De openbare ruimte wordt
grondig herdacht en er wordt een voetgangerszone
en een nieuwe groen plein
aangemaakt. Op die manier worden de
ruimtes geoptimaliseerd en het gebouw
opengesteld, wat garant staat voor een
vlotte stadswandeling.
Sint-Joost is ideaal gelegen tussen het
stadscentrum, de Noordwijk, de Europese
wijk, de federale en regionale instellingen
en de commerciële Naamsepoort. In deze
‘stad in de stad’ houdt elk type openbaar
vervoer halt en is er een overdekte openbare
parking. Op zaterdag of tijdens de
solden vertaalt deze grote toegankelijkheid
zich in een grote toeloop in de winkels.
De horeca zit in de lift, maar ook een
groot theater, een conferentiecentrum,
een discotheek en een jazzclub maken het
commerciële aanbod compleet. Een mooi
bewijs dat het in Sint-Joost wel degelijk
leeft, en dit zowel overdag als ‘s nachts.

Saint-Josse is a neighbourhood which is rich
in tradition, with a thriving business and
shopping area. It has a strong identity, with
a rich mixture of cultures and activities,
where inhabitants and employees, customers
and night owls rub shoulders. It is a lively
part of the city, the link between the city
centre and the European district, where the
Madou Tower has for several years housed
part of the European Commission’s offices.
Atrium and the commune of Saint-Josse
have studied the feasibility of a mixed
project: businesses, housing, hotel and
culture. It will link Madou and Saint-Josse.
The public space will be completely redesigned,
with the creation of a pedestrian
area and a new green public space. As a
result, surface areas will be optimised and
the open-style building layout will provide
the necessary fluidity for urban mobility.
Ideally located between the city centre,
the North district, the European district,
the district which is home to federal and
regional institutions and the very busy
shopping district of the porte de Namur,
this part of the city is well served by all
types of public transport and has covered
parking spaces open to the public. As a
result of this easy accessibility, on Saturdays
and sale days, the district’s shops
and businesses are particularly busy. The
commune also has a booming hotel, restaurant
and café sector, as well as a large
theatre, a conference centre, a nightclub
