27.5 TIME CHARACTERISTICS
27.5.1 Periodicity of updates
Permanent (day to day) updates by the community service are required. In
reality new events (death, divorce, move, ) are registered with some delay
that is mainly caused by the maximum time limits that are allowed to the
citizens between the actual event and its registration with the community
service.
27.5.2 Longitudinality
The register does not only contain the cross-sectional data at a specific moment
(date of last registration), but also all changes that occur in the course of the
lifetime. This allows retrieving historical situations. The most important break in
data occurs when a person changes sex. At that time a new National Number
should be constructed and a new file is opened.
27.5.3 Period covered by the data
All data are archived up to thirty years after death.
