Natuurlijk Natuur - Stella Mays

"Beeldende kunst die de levende natuur als inspiratiebron
heeft". Dat zou een omschrijving kunnen zijn van "wildlife art"
of "natuurkunst". Om de essentie goed te kunnen vatten is
het veelal noodzakelijk dat de kunstenaar de dieren in hun
eigen natuurlijke omgeving observeert. De houding, manier
van bewegen, de anatomie en spierspanning, en ook de
leefomgeving zelf. Alles moet kloppen, alles speelt een rol
om het dier met gevoel realistisch uit te beelden. En dit in
het juiste landschap.
Vooral bij "wildlife art" is betrokkenheid van de kunstenaar
bepalend; hoe persoonlijker betrokken hoe indrukwekkender
het werk is. Ook bij het samenstellen van onze alweer derde
jaarlijkse tentoonstelling "Natuurlijk Natuur" is ons in
gesprekken met de kunstenaars deze persoonlijke
betrokkenheid opnieuw opgevallen. De meesten van hen
hebben al van jongs af aan een passie voor dieren en de
natuur en brengen nu bij hun vakuitoefening vele uren in de
natuur door. Kijken, observeren, schetsen en vooral ook
inspiratie op doen. Met grote deskundigheid.
Of een werk nu realistisch, impressionistisch, of zelfs
abstract maakt verder geen verschil. Is het kunst of is het
illustratie? Waar het om gaat; een kunstwerk moet de kijker
prikkelen, verrassen, opvallen of zelfs raken. Dit geldt ook
voor "wildlife art".
Ons land kent veel talentvolle kunstenaars die zich volledig
richten op dieren; dit zelfs met internationale bekendheid.
Trots presenteren wij een aantal van hen, samen met een
aantal buitenlandse collega's, op onze expositie "Natuurlijk
Natuur".

"Art work inspired by the living nature". That is how "wildlife
art" could be characterised. In order to be able to grab the
essence well it is usually imperative for the artist to observe
the animals in their own habitat.
The pose and motion, the anatomy and the muscle structure
and the habitat itself. Everything must be right. Everything is
of great importance to portray the animal in a refined and
realistic way. And this in the right setting.
Especially for "wild life art", the artist's engagement crucial;
the higher the level of personal commitment, the more
impressive the art work will be. Also in composing our
already third annual exhibition "Natuurlijk Natuur" we again
noticed this personal commitment by the artists. Most of
them have had a passion for animals and nature ever since
they were young. Now, by working as an artist, they spend
many hours in nature. Looking, observing, sketching and
foremost getting inspired. And this with great
professionalism.
Whether the art work is either realistic, impressionistic or
even abstract does not make any difference. Is it true art or
is it illustration? What really matters is that the art work
should touch, surprise and catch the eye of the observer.
This also applies to "wildlife art".
The Netherlands is home to many skilled artists who fully
devote themselves to animals. This even with international
fame. Proudly, we present you some of them, along with a
couple of foreign fellow artists at our exhibition "Natuurlijk
Natuur".
