Cyclic shear<br />

strength<br />

Cyclic pore pressures and shear strength. Cyclic loading induces excess pore water<br />

pressures in the foundation soil which, in turn, reduces the undrained shear strength<br />

of soil and the foundation capacity. The project task is to study the development of<br />

cyclic pore pressures during cyclic loading with partial drainage using cyclic shear<br />

laboratory tests and given cyclic load history. The study will be restricted to one soil<br />

element subjected to cyclic loading of constant amplitude and assuming constant<br />

consolidation degree due to partial drainage.<br />

The study can be further expanded into a Master thesis where a real cyclic history can<br />

be modeled using the pr<strong>og</strong>ram “CYCPORE2”.<br />
