Independent of the recall remedy, Toyota hasdeveloped a Brake Override System to provide anextra measure of owner confidence. Although anowner might never experience its operation, thisbraking system enhancement will automaticallyreduce engine power when the brake pedal andaccelerator pedal are applied simultaneously undercertain driving conditions.The Brake Override System operates whenthese conditions are met:1. The throttle opening is greater than 1/3.2. Vehicle speed is above 5 mph3. Brakes are applied firmlyAdditional Details:• During greater accelerator pedal application,the Brake Override System activates with anybrake pedal pressure.• Brake Override System activation is cancelledwhen the brake pedal is released.• When the Brake Override System is active atpart throttle, changes in the accelerator pedalposition may cancel activation.• To allow the vehicle to start on a hill withoutrolling backwards, the Brake Override Systemwill not activate if the brake is applied prior topressing the accelerator pedal.• The Brake Override System is not active in4WD vehicles while driving in low range.Note to Hybrid owners:The Toyota Hybrid System achieves a resultsimilar to the Brake Override Systemby reducing power if the brakes are appliedwhile the accelerator pedal is depressed.
