1) COMPARATIVO DE SUPERIORIDADE
ADJETIVO + ER + THAN - Para adjetivos com 1 ou 2 sílabas.
Ex.: Joana is older than Tom.
MORE + ADJETIVO + THAN - Para adjetivos com mais de 3 sílabas.
Ex. Xuxa is more famous than Eliana.
2) COMPARATIVO DE IGUALDADE
AFIRMATIVO: AS + ADJETIVO + AS ( tão ....... quanto)
Ex.: John is as tall as Bill.

NEGATIVO: NOT AS + ADJETIVO + AS
ou
NOT SO + ADJETIVO + AS
Ex.: Susan is not as thin as her mother.

3) COMPARATIVO DE INFERIORIDADE:
LESS + ADJETIVO + THAN (menos .. do que)
Ex.: This lesson is less difficult than the previous one.
4) SUPERLATIVO DE SUPERIORIDADE:
THE + ADJETIVO + EST - Para adjetivos com 1 ou 2 sílabas.
(o/a mais ......)
Ex.: Today is the coldest day of the year.
THE MOST + ADJETIVO - Para adjetivos com mais de 3 sílabas.
Ex.: This is the most famous invention of all.
5) SUPERLATIVO DE INFERIORIDADE:
THE LEAST . ( o/a menos ..)
Ex.: Of the three rings, this one was the least expensive.

REGRAS
1) Se o adjetivo monossílabo terminar em -E, acrescenta-se -R para o
comparativo e -ST para o superlativo.
Ex. : LARGE - LARGER THAN - THE LARGEST
(grande) (maior do que) (o maior)
2) Adjetivos terminados em -Y precedido por consoante, substitui-se -Y por
-I e acrescenta-se -ER para o comparativo e -EST para o superlativo.
Ex.: CRAZY - CRAZIER THAN - THE CRAZIEST
OBS.: Se o -Y for precedido por vogal, pode-se substituir ou não.
3) Os adjetivos terminados em CVC (CONSOANTE-VOGAL-CONSOANTE),
dobram a consoante final:
Ex.: THIN - THINNER THAN - THE THINNEST
4) Adjetivos terminados em ER, -LE e- OW, seguem as regras dos
monossilábicos, independente do número de sílabas.
Ex.: CLEVER - CLEVERER - THE CLEVEREST
EXCEÇÕES:
- GOOD - BETTER THAN - THE BEST
(bom) (melhor do que) (o melhor)
- BAD - WORSE THAN - THE WORST
(mau) (pior do que) (o pior)
- FAR - FARTHER THAN - THE FURTHEST
(longe) (mais longe) (o mais longe)
