THE POLITICS AND THE OLYMPIANISM
Abstract
This essay has for objective to rescue the historical processes of the Modern Olympic Games,
evidencing the ideological chains that had established since 1896 in Athens, when the Baron
Pierre de Coubertin rescued the Modern Olympic Games. The use of the Games is
distinguished as a symbolic power inside the logics of the society contemporary development,
passing for the Olympism, philosophy that conducts the Games. The established contradictions
inside of the Olympic disputes are disclosed in this text as form to evidence the power
processes that are instituted in diverse segments of the sporting field. With this, it is concluded
that the Games since its beginning are subject to decay of its ideals as the amateurishness and
to fair play in face to the interests of diverse fields (politician, economic, religious).
