PRESENTATION
Confined within our homes, we
have overcome great challenges
to carry out the 7th FIS
/ 2020. Due to the pandemic
COVID 19, we canceled the face-to-face
version that would take place in May
2020.
In March, everything was ready to receive
companies with tickets, hotel, schedules, restaurant,
spaces for presentations and graphic
material in process.
We watch people from all over the world inside
their homes, with empty streets and crowded
hospitals.
Unfortunately, so far, we have lost 130,000
lives in Brazil that had a name, family and address.
We express our sincere condolences to
friends from all over the world who lost their
relatives and friends during this battle for life.
According to the WHO so far, there is still no
safe vaccine for life to be saved from this virus.
With the realization ONLINE we aim to take
the shadow theater into people’s homes.
In this edition we will receive shows from Italy,
Spain, Argentina, Canada, Belgium and Brazil.
ONLINE presentations will have different formats:
shows with live transmission, recorded
shows, fragments of shows and after all the
presentations there will be a chat with the
director / group. We also offer a free “mini
shadow theater” course where the participant
can build their own show at home.
In this edition we turn our actions so that the
viewer stays at home and can have a moment
of poetry and joy together with the family.

In this edition, all activities will be carried out virtually.

Valmor Níni Beltrame - Theatrical director, puppeteer,
Doctor in Theater (2001) from USP.
Professor and researcher in theater at the
State University of Santa Catarina - UDESC
(1988 - 2016). He edited Móin-Móin - Magazine
of Studies on Theater of Animated Forms
from 2005 to 2018. He was a member of the
Gralha Azul THEATRE Group, from Lages, SC,
between 1978 and 1986, performing in several
SHOWs in which he worked with shadow theater.
He studied shadow theater with Jean Pierre
Lescot (France), Fabrizio Montecchi, Meher
Contractor (InDAY). ToDAY he publishes the
Mamulengo Magazine of ABTB.

Release
The SHOW “Delirium, Shadows of the Unconscious”
is a performance by Cia Quase Cinema
that uses architecture as a backdrop and the
city as part of the work, a live cinema. Work
inspired by the fantastic beings of the island of
Prospero “Shakespeare’s Tempest”, we research
madness as a poetic and dreamlike matter.
Here, the shadows refer to the unconscious,
childhood memories, the dream and intangible
world of the human mind. A tangle of emotions,
images and sounds, are lapses of the imagetic
memory in a single instant of delirium that are
manifested in the shadows of the unconscious.

With the digging up of the Devil, a portal
opens where everything is possible, it’s Carnival
time. Demons and devils come down the hill
ready to celebrate. But a shadow separates in
search of another destination. La Sombra Diabla,
shadow theater, a show where light and
darkness combine with a sound universe proper
to transport us to the magical world of Andean
carnival.

NIGHT’S DREAM
Teatro Gioco Vita was born in 1971, one of the
first companies in Italy to be the protagonist
of the theatrical animation movement, thanks
to which it was able to make an original contribution
to the birth of children’s theater. Fabrizio
Montecchi met the shadow theater in the
late seventies and gained a unique experience
of the kind that earned him recognition around
the world. We will watch fragments of the
shows that enchanted the world and were selected
for this period where the presentations
are online.

Lady Di Fusa is a composer who spends all
night working and is unable to compose a
musical piece. Exhausted, she sleeps on the
instruments and when she awakens something
is different; your hands can already
play the melodies you imagined. From these
notes, images emerge, with lights, shadows
and colors, tell a fantastic story of two puppets
that awaken from a closet and little by
little come to life.

Feeling a little stir-crazy? Craving human touch
and connection? Would you like to travel to
Canada? Relax, as Mind of a Snail helps manifest
our desired illusions into virtual realities.
As professional science-art-clown-healers,
Mind of a Snail Puppet Co. has constructed a
Digital-Analog Holo-Deck that customizes any
longed for travel destination, or psychedelic
spa experience. Through using state of the
art technology (overhead projectors combined
with the internet) lucky volunteers in Brazil
will be beamed LIVE into Mind of a Snail’s
avant-garde sanctuary-laboratory living-room
theatre in Canada! Audiences watching will
witness a type of visual float tank that is guaranteed
to be virtually safe. Side effects may
include lucid dreaming, eureka moments, and
fits of laughter. By bending time together using
technology, we will attune to reality via a shared
moment of visual fantasy!

Behind the screen, two puppeteers manipulate
more than 250 silhouettes. In front of the
screen the shadows are accompanied by a
versatile musician (saxophone, trumpet, flute,
melodic, drums and all types of percussion).
In a grand burlesque parade, these colorful
characters blend together and create a surrealist
fresco. Silhouettes cut out of cardboard,
musical and onomatopoeic concert, poetic and
peculiar atmosphere. A show that looks like a
“magician’s surgery” where everything is reinvented
and nothing is hidden (or almost).

at the Department of Performing Arts
at UnB - University of Brasília. A tireless researcher
of the dream-art of shadows. She will
share her knowledge of the actor’s body in the
shadow theater.

“MINI THEATER OF SHADOWS”
WITH GIRINO GROUP

*A virtual meeting will be held during the week
of the festival so that participants can talk with
the artists who are teaching the course and
other artists who also work with this language.
“Mini Shadow Theater” offers participants an
experience of building a mini box of shadows.
They will be videos that present content related
to the structuring of a mini theater, characters,
scenography, projection surfaces and
light sources.
Participants will have the opportunity to plan
a scenic Shadow Theater box to play and tell
stories. When a scenic box is completely closed,
it can also be called the Lambe Lambe
Theater, a technique known for presenting
short shows. Participants will be able to choose
between making an open or closed box.
The experience provides an immersion in the
fantastic shadow theater within the universe
of miniatures that presents several developments
for artists, educators and parents.
