Dear Colleague<br />
The XIX Annual CAR Congress, and the XIV ESRA Zonal Congress in Portugal, took place last October at Hospital da Prelada in<br />
Oporto, an exquisite organization of the Anaesthesia Department un<strong>de</strong>r the direction of Dr. Edgar Lopes. In this Congress were<br />
present 165 colleagues.<br />
The Jury of 2010 CAR Awards, <strong>de</strong>termined the assignment of the 2nd Prize to poster “Epidural technique approach to chronic low<br />
back pain” presented by Daniela Araújo co-authored by Raquel Caetano, Cristina Duarte and Fernando Pousa from the Pain Unit<br />
of Centro Hospitalar <strong>de</strong> Vila Nova <strong>de</strong> Gaia – Espinho EPE. The article is published in this journal.<br />
The honorable mention was attributed to the poster “Subarachnoid Block in Ambulatory Surgery”, presented by Joana Rebelo coauthored<br />
by Vânia Costa, Rita Teixeira, Marta Achando and Paula Neves of the Anaesthesia Department in Hospital <strong>de</strong> Vila Nova<br />
<strong>de</strong> Gaia – Espinho EPE. You may also read this article in the following pages.<br />
By the Jury’s recommendation two posters presented at Hospital da Prelada are also published: “Camurati-Engelmann<br />
Syndrome – Epidural Block?” and “Spinal anaesthesia in patient with Huntington’s Chorea”.<br />
In the work of Joana Rebelo from Centro Hospitalar <strong>de</strong> Vila Nova <strong>de</strong> Gaia about “Subaracnoid Block in Ambulatory Surgery”,<br />
the authors make some comments about the validity of this anaesthetic technique in clinic, due to its safety and ease<br />
implementation.<br />
From Hospital <strong>de</strong> S. João, an article about the “Greater occipital nerve block for benign tumor removal”: a simple and effective<br />
practice.<br />
Vila Real makes a new approach to an old problem the “Subarachnoid block postoperative headache”. The subject is approached<br />
by Clara Lobo and Colleagues, anaesthetists from Centro Hospitalar <strong>de</strong> Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro.<br />
Awar<strong>de</strong>d with the 2nd Prize CAR 2010, Daniela Araújo and Colleagues (Centro Hospitalar Gaia – Espinho) tell us about Epidural<br />
Technique approach to chronic low back pain, an utmost important pathology due to the frequency and disabling action.<br />
From Viseu a study about the use of “Subarachnoid block in surgical occurrence of patients with Huntington’s Chorea, an hereditary<br />
disease”.<br />
From HUC comes an interesting paper about “Obstetrics as a comparative study about different doses of ropivacaine for caesarean<br />
section” when this option is taken in the course of labor analgesia.<br />
Still form HUC a paper about the use of regional anaesthetic techniques in other rare disease: the Camurati-Engelmann<br />
Syndrome.<br />
At last, from HUC, Francisco Matos and Colleagues present us with a survey about maternal satisfaction after anaesthesia for<br />
caesarean section comparing subarachnoid block and epidural.<br />
In early 2011 the new CAR website will be operational with a different structure, friendlier and I hope, more profitable.<br />
2011 is the year of the CAR XXth Anniversary. The Congress will take place in Lisbon between September 28th and October 1st .<br />
Before, on February 19th , the 38th CAR Saturday will take place in Viseu. On a date still to schedule will be held in Vila Real the<br />
39th CAR Saturday and on November 26th in Alcoitão will be the 40th CAR Saturday <strong>de</strong>voted to Physical Medicine, Rehabilitation<br />
and Chronic Pain.<br />
