PASTORALĂ LA PRAZNICUL ÎNVIERII
DOMNULUI 2009

Hristos a înviat!
În dimineaţa Învierii, după citirea Sfintei
Evanghelii vestind aflarea mormântului gol de către femeile
mironosiţe şi explicaţia dată de îngeri privind ridicarea
Domnului din morţi, cântăm troparul Hristos a înviat din
morţi... Auzim întâi vestirea evenimentului istoric relatat de
primele martore, femeile mironosiţe şi abia apoi ne vestim
unii altora minunea Învierii. Evenimentul istoric capătă
semnificaţie veşnică prin această vestire de-a lungul
veacurilor până la sfârşitul lumii.
Învierea Domnului este praznicul praznicelor şi
sărbătoarea sărbătorilor. Numim această sărbătoare Sf.
Paşti preluând numele sărbătorii iudaice Pesah, care
înseamnă trecere. Pentru evrei, Paştile însemna trecerea de
la robia egipteană la libertatea făgăduită de Dumnezeu.
Învierea Mântuitorului este tot o trecere, dar nu
numai o trecere de la o stare la alta, ci una ce zguduie
aşezarea însăşi a fiinţei umane, căci este trecere de la
moarte la viaţă, după cum mărturisim în cântările de la
slujba Utreniei: Ziua Învierii, popoare să ne luminăm!
Paştile Domnului, Paştile! Că din moarte la viaţă şi de pe
pământ la cer, Hristos-Dumnezeu ne-a trecut pe noi, cei ce
cântăm cântare de biruinţă! Hristos ne-a trecut şi pe noi din
robia păcatului la libertatea de a fi fii ai lui Dumnezeu.
Aceasta este prima trecere operată de Învierea lui Hristos:
trecere a omului de la moartea necunoştinţei şi îndepărtării
de Dumnezeu la viaţa izvorâtă din comuniunea cu
Dumnezeu.
Al doilea sens al Învierii Domnului ca şi trecere se
referă la abolirea morţii ca şi eşec al existenţei umane, ca şi
pecetluire a păcatului, a îndepărtării omului de Dumnezeu.
Mărturisind Învierea din morţi a lui Hristos afirmăm că
moartea celui credincios nu mai semnifică sfârşitul vieţii
pământeşti, ci trecere din această viaţă la o alta a
comuniunii mai depline cu Dumnezeu. Viaţa pământească
nu se termină la mormânt, creştinul nu trece în nefiinţă cum
spun necredincioşii, ci trece la o altă viaţă. Sf. Antonie cel
Mare spune: Moartea de o va avea omul în minte, nemurire
este; iar neavându-o în minte, moarte este.
Dar mai există şi un al treilea sens al Învierii
Domnului ca şi trecere. Sf. Apostol Pavel vorbeşte
creştinilor din Corint despre acest lucru: Taină vă spun
vouă: Nu toţi vom muri, dar toţi ne vom schimba. Deodată,
într-o clipeală de ochi la trâmbiţa cea de apoi. Căci
trâmbiţa va suna şi morţii vor învia nestricăcioşi, iar noi ne
vom schimba Căci trebuie ca acest trup stricăcios să se

Beloved Faithful,
Christ is risen!
On the morning of the Resurrection, following the
reading of the Holy Gospel proclaiming the discovery of
the empty tomb by the myrrh-bearing women and the
angel’s explanation of the Lord’s rising from the dead, we
sing the troparion Christ is risen from the dead.... We hear
first the announcement of the historical event related by the
first witnesses, the myrrh-bearers, and only then do we
proclaim to one another the wonder of the Resurrection.
The historical event takes on an eternal significance by
means of this proclamation throughout the ages until the
end of the world.
The Lord’s Resurrection is the feast of feasts and the
holiday of holidays. We call this feast Holy Pascha, using
the name of the Hebrew feast of Passover or Pesach, which
means passing over. For the Jews, Passover meant the
passage from Egyptian slavery to the freedom promised by
God.
The Savior’s Resurrection is also a passage; not simply
a passage from one state of being to another, but one which
shakes the very foundation of human nature, for it is the
passage from death to life, as we witness in the songs from
Resurrection Matins: Today is the Day of Resurrection! O
nations, let us shine forth; for this Pascha is the Pascha of
the Lord, in that Christ did make us pass from death to Life
and from earth to heaven, who now sing the song of victory
and triumph! Christ has taken us also from the bondage of
sin to the freedom of being sons of God. This is the first
passage accomplished through the Resurrection of Christ:
man’s passage from the death of ignorance and
estrangement from God to the life which flows from
communion with God.
The second sense of the Lord’s Resurrection as
passage refers to the abolition of death as the failure of
human existence, as the seal of sin, of man’s separation
from God. Witnessing Christ’s Resurrection from the dead,
we affirm that the death of the believer no longer means the
end of earthly life, but passage from this life into one of
more perfect communion with God. Earthly life is not
terminated in the grave; the Christian does not pass into
nonexistence as unbelievers say, but passes into another
life. St. Anthony the Great says, Death, if one keeps it in
mind, is immortality; but to not keep it in mind is death.
But there is yet another sense of the Lord’s
Resurrection as passage. St. Paul the Apostle speaks about
this to the Christians in Corinth: Listen, I tell you a mystery:

îmbrace în nestricăciune şi acest (trup) muritor să se
îmbrace în nemurire. (1 Cor. 15, 51-53). Trecerea noastră de
la moarte la viaţă se va desăvârşi la sfârşitul veacurilor când
cei morţi vor învia, iar cei ce vor trăi încă se vor schimba.
Este vorba de o schimbare a trupurilor, de o trecere a lor de
la stricăciune la nestricăciune, de la moarte la viaţă. Sf. Pavel
vorbeşte foarte clar de schimbarea trupurilor şi de îmbrăcarea
lor în nemurire. La sfârşitul veacurilor, când însuşi Domnul,
întru poruncă, la glasul arhanghelului şi întru trâmbiţa lui
Dumnezeu, Se va pogorî din cer (1 Tes. 4, 16) sufletul se va
reuni cu trupul şi împreună se vor prezenta la judecată. Iar
această trecere, această transformare de la sfârşitul veacurilor
a persoanei umane vine să dovedească Învierea
Mântuitorului. Căci Sf. Pavel continuă descoperirea acestei
taine: "Moartea a fost înghiţită de biruinţă. Unde îţi este,
moarte, biruinţa ta? Unde îţi este, moarte, boldul tău?" (1
Cor. 15, 54-55).
Iubiţi credincioşi,
Prin Înviere, Hristos ne dăruieşte şansa nemuririi, a
vieţii veşnice. Îndemnul meu la acest praznic slăvit este să
primim descoperirea Sf. Scripturi privind Învierea
Mântuitorului şi învierea noastră ca şi trecere, în mai multe
etape, de la moarte la viaţă, să primim şi să facem lucrător
darul Învierii, să vestim tuturor că, pe urma Învierii lui
Hristos, şi noi înviem la vieţuirea cea adevărată.
Anul 2009 este şi el unul aniversar căci se împlinesc
80 de ani de la întemeierea Episcopiei Ortodoxe pentru
românii din America. Să ne rugăm Domnului celui Înviat să
ne dăruiască înţelepciunea şi puterea de a desăvârşi în acest
an planul unirii celor două Eparhii Ortodoxe Româneşti de pe
continentul american. Şi să aducem mărturia noastră că darul
Învierii lucrează şi plineşte toate cele de trebuinţă.
Hristos Domnul să vă dăruiască lumina Învierii Sale
dimpreună cu pacea Sa şi bucuria de a vesti lumii biruinţa
vieţii asupra morţii!
Vă îmbrăţişez frăţeşte în Hristos Domnul Cel Înviat
şi vă urez Sărbători fericite!

We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed—in a flash,
in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet
will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will
be changed. For the perishable must clothe itself with the
imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. (1 Cor. 15:51-
53). Our passage from death to life will be completed at the
end of the ages, when the dead will rise, and those still alive
will be changed. This is a change of our bodies, their passage
from corruptibility to incorruptibility, from death to life. St.
Paul speaks very clearly about the changing of our bodies
and their being clothed in incorruptibility. At the end of the
ages, when the Lord himself will come down from heaven,
with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and
with the trumpet call of God (1 Thess. 4:16), the soul will be
reunited with the body and together they will present
themselves at the judgment. And this passage, this
transformation of the human being at the end of the ages is a
proof of the Savior’s Resurrection. For St. Paul continues the
revelation of this mystery: "Death has been swallowed up in
victory." "Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death,
is your sting?"(1 Cor. 15:54-55).
Beloved believers,
Through the Resurrection, Christ gives us the
opportunity to attain immortality, eternal life. My challenge
to you at this glorious feast is that we may receive the
revelation of Holy Scripture regarding the Savior’s
Resurrection, and our own resurrection as passage, in several
stages, from death to life; that we may receive the gift of the
Resurrection and make it operative in our lives; that we may
proclaim to everyone that because of the Resurrection of
Christ we too will arise to true life.
The year 2009 is an anniversary year, for 80 years
have passed since the founding of the Orthodox Episcopate
for Romanians in America. Let us ask the Risen Lord to grant
us the wisdom and power this year to complete the plan of
uniting the two Romanian Orthodox Eparchies on the North
American continent. And let us bear our own witness to the
fact that the gift of the Resurrection is functioning and fulfills
all things that are necessary for our salvation.
May Christ the Lord grant you the light of His
Resurrection together with His peace and the joy of
proclaiming to the world the triumph of life over death!

Parastas şi oferit pomană de un an pentru soţia şi mama Livia-
Petronela Geca
Sâmbătă 11 aprilie (Sâmbăta lui Lazăr) Olimpia Mitric
şi fii ei au ridicat Parastas şi oferit pomană de 40 zile în
memoria soţului şi tatălui Ion Mitric.
În Sâmbăta Floriilor (Sâmbăta lui Lazăr) părintele Ion
Gherman dimpreună cu cântăreţii de la strană au slujit sf.
Liturghie şi au slujit Parastasul pentru toţi cei morţi ce se
pomenesc la Cununa anului. De altfel toţi aceşti morţi de la
Cununa Anului s-au pomenit în fiecare din sâmbetele morţilor
din acest post al Sf. Paşti.

MEMORIAL SERVICES
March 25, on Annunciation, Viorica Cinc and family
offered a three year Parastas and Pomana in memory of their
father Traian, and other deceased family members.
Saturday, April 4,Ionel Geca and his daughters offered a
one year Parastas and Pomana in memory of their wife and
mother, Livia-Petronela Geca.
Saturday, April 11, (Lazarus Saturday) Olimpia Mitric and
her sons offered a 40 day Parastas and Pomana in memory of
their husband and father Ion Mitric.
Palm Saturday, (Lazarus Saturday), fr. Ion Gherman
together with the cantor and the singers held Holy Liturgy and
Memorial services for all the deceased that are on the annual
prayer list. They were remembered every Memorial Saturday
during Lent.
May God rest them in peace!

Îndrumări duhovniceşti
Ne aflăm în perioada anului bisericesc a Penticostarului( sau
Cincizecimii- cinci zeci de zile) care începe cu Slujba Învierii, din
noaptea Sf. Paşti şi se termină la Duminica Tuturor Sfinţilor
(întâia duminică după Rusalii). În total durează 8 săptămâni.
Întâia săptămână după Paşti se numeşte Săptămâna
Luminată. În această săptămână toate uşile Sf. Altar rămân
deschise.
Nu se îngenunchează în Săptămâna Luminată, dar se reiau
îngenuncherile după această săptămână deci începând cu
Duminica Tomii.
În timpul Sf. Liturghi se îngenunchează la: Citirea Evangheliei,
la ieşirea cu Sf. Daruri (cântarea Heruvicului) şi la Prefacere
(când se cântă Pe Tine Te lăudăm).
De la Paşti până la Rusalii nu se zice rugăciunea Împărate
Ceresc ci Hristos a înviat până la Înălţare iar de la Înălţarea
Domnului până la Rusalii se zic numai rugăciunile Prea Sfântă
Treime şi Tatăl Nostru.
Dela Paşti până la Înălţare credincioşii se salută cu Hristos a
Înviat / Adevărat a Înviat iar de la Înălţare până la Rusalii se
salută cu Hristos s-a înălţat/ Adevărat că s-a înălţat!.
MULTUMIRI
Tuturor celor care au donat bunătăţi şi au lucrat pentru
Bake Sale. S-au adunat Ş1,500.Vezi şi raportul financiar.
Dl. Iancu Suciu a făcut cârnaţii pentru Bake Sale ajutat
de Dl. Nelu Pora.
Fam. Costin/Geta Prescurea a donat carnea pentru
cârnaţii de la Bake sale (Ş 77).
Dlui Teodor Stroie pentru înrămarea într-un timp scurt
a unei icoane de la Locurile Sfinte, expusă deocamdată în Sf.
Altar, şi Dliu Costin Prescurea pentru înrămarea chipului Prea
Fericitului Patriarh Daniel din Oficiul Parohial.
Dnei Dijana Bokjanc pentru icoana Invierii donată de
sf. Paşti şi pentru acoperământul naţional de sub icoanele de la
intrare în biserică.
Doamnelor profesoare şi comitetului de părinţi al Şcolii
duminicale pentru organizarea venirii iepuraşului (Easter Egghunt).
Profesoarelor şi copiilor din Şcoala Duminicală pentru
progreamul de Sf. Paşti prezentat în duminica Floriilor. Drept
mulţumire, în hala parohială, s-a organizat de profesoare şi
părinţi un banquet pentru copii sâmbătă 2 mai 09.

Spiritual guidance
We are during the period of the church year called
Penticostarion (or Fifty days) which starts with the
Ressurection Service on Easter night, and ends with the All
Saints Sunday (first Sunday after Pentecost), a total of 8
weeks.
The first week after Easter is called the Bright week, when all
the altar doors must stay open.
There is no kneeling during this week. The kneeling resumes
on Toma’s Sunday.
During the Holy Liturgy there is kneeling at the Reading of the
Gospel, at the Great Entrance and Transubstantion ( when we
sing We praise You)
From Easter to Pentecost there’s no saying of the Heavenly
King prayer, only “Christ is risen” till The Ascension and then
only Holy Trinity and Our Father till Pentecost.
From Easter to Ascension, Christians greet each other with:
Christ is risen!/ITruly He is risen! And from Ascension to
Pentecost with Christ is ascended!/ITruly He is ascended!

Bake sale, helped by Mr Nelu Pora.

the Holy Land, which is in the altar for now, and Mr Costin
Prescurea for framing the portrait of His Beautitude Patriarh
Daniel for the parish office.

icon for Easter and the national themed covers for the church
entrance icons.
The Sunday School teachers and parents comitee
for organizing the Easter Egg-hunt.
The Sunday School teachers and students for the
Easter program presented on Palm Sunday. As a thank you,
on Saturday May 2 nd , the teachers and parents organized a
party for the children.

Veşmite noi
Părintele paroh al Catedralei Buna Vestire, Ion Gherman, a
slujit în noaptea Sf. Paşti cu un rând de veşminte noi dăruite de
un grup de familii credincioase: Laurenţiu şi Emanuela Frâncu,
Ana şi Gheorghe Ghindea, Silviu şi Corina Andreiaş, Ion, Florin
şi Elena Teulea, Nicolae şi Aurelia David. Bunul Dumnezeu să
reverse harul Său binefăcator peste aceste familii şi copiii lor,
ori de câte ori, cu aceste veşminte, preotul slujeşte
dumnezeieştile slujbe, Amin.

Adunare Parohiala Extraordinara va avea loc Duminica 7
Iunie, dupa Sfinta Liturghie. Sunt invitati toti membrii parohiei

Festival românesc.
Încurajat de părintele Gherman, Dl. Sorin Motoc a luat initiativa
organizării unui festival românesc. Suntem în căutare de local
şi se preconizează pentru sâmbătă 19 septembrie. Rugăm
credincioşii să sprijine această acţiune culturală românească.
Vacanţă
Părintele Gherman plănuieşte concediul pe anul 2009: 18 mai-
25mai şi 15 august-29 august.
Avem nevoie de sponsori pentru urmatoarele Mese: Ziua
tatilor, Masa aniversare biserica.
Calendare perete/poşetă(buzunar), mai sunt câteva de
vânzare la epitropie.
Material religios se găseşte de vânzare la epitropie sau după
terminarea slujbei în biroul bibliotecii parohiale.
Cărţi religioase din biblioteca parohială se pot împrumuta
pentru citit în fiecare duminică după slujbă
Preţul materialelor de cult :
Prescura= Ş6; Colac-Parastas= Ş15; Colivă- Ş40. Vinul de
altar, cărbunii şi tămâia, în funcţie de preţul de cumpărare de la
magazin. Preţul lumânărilor, obiectelor religioase, cruciuliţe şi
cărţi de rugăciuni este la epitropie.

Easter night
Banquet workers: Costin and Geta Prescurea, Sorina Stroie,

Prescurea family provided 6 gallons of wine, Cipu family
donated a Honey Baked Ham, Defta family donated a lamb
casserole and others brought red eggs. As every year, The
Ladies Auxiliary supplied all the other food.

The Gospel was read in different languages: Fr Gherman-
Romanian and Latin, Teodor Stroie-Italian, Cristina Sirca-
Spanish, Camelia Antonescu-French, Liviu Antonescu-

New vestments
The parish priest of Buna Vestire Cathedral, fr. Ion Gherman
had served the Easter mass in a new set of vestments,
donated by a group of families: Laurenţiu and Emanuela
Frâncu, Ana and Gheorghe Ghindea, Silviu and Corina
Andreiaş, Ion, Florin and Elena Teulea, Nicolae and Aurelia
David. May God bless them and their children with His gifts,
every time, dressed in those vestments, the priest performs
Holy Mass, Amen.
Coffee hour
Nicu and Valeria Ludu donated the coffee, sugar and
milk once again. God bless them.
Altar wine was donated by Petru Bataran and family($18)
Extraordinary parish meeting will be held on Sunday, June 7,
after Liturgy.
Romanian fest.
Mr Sorin Motoc, encouraged by fr Gherman is organizing a
Romanian fest this year. We are still looking for a location but we
are planning for Saturday, September 19. Please support this
cultural event.
Vacation.
Fr Gherman is planning his vacation for this year as follows: May
18-25 and August 15-29.

Firma de Arhitecţi „REM Architects”
Pentru a urgenta începerea lucrărilor de construcţii, la
Adunarea Parohială din 4 Februarie 2007 s-a propus şi
votat ca ţinta lunară de donaţii pentru Fondul de Construcţii,
suma de $5.000.

o achităm până în anul 2010)

respectiv #5442).
Pasul următor este ducerea la îndeplinire a acestui măreţ
proiect care necesită donaţii substanţiale. Comitetul va pregăti
dosare, cu proiectul nostru, pe care fiecare credincios le poate
lua şi arăta cunoscuţilor şi instituţiilor unde lucrează pentru
strângere de fonduri.
Un îndemn sincer
Participarea la Fondul de Construcţie a noii biserici
a tuturor celor care apartin spiritual Catedralei Buna Vestire
prin Botez, Cununie etc. este serios recomandată de
părintele paroh, fiind, pentru toti, o obligaţie morală şi
respect duhovnicesc faţă de Biserica unde au primit,la
cerere, harul mântuitor al Sf.Taine.
Biserica nu-i asemenea unui club sau unei asociatii
culturale, prevăzută cu o anumită membrie, ci Ea este locul
unde începe (naştere) şi se sfârşeşte (moarte) lucrarea de
mântuirie a fiecărui creştin. Dorim să realizăm noua
biserică şi cu sprijinul financiar al celor menţionaţi mai sus.

To speed up the construction of the new church, at the
Annual Parish Assembly held February 4th, 2007, a motion
was approved to increase the monthly goal donations to
$5,000.

How do we use the money from the Building
Fund?
Out of the $5,000 monthly goal donations
$1,056 monthly mortgage payments for the house
$1,944 monthly principal payments (we want to pay
off the mortgage by 2010)
$2,000 is deposited in two savings accounts (acct
#8185, and #5442).
The next step is accomplishing this great project, and this
requires substantial donations. The Comitee will prepare
folders about our project that anybody can take and show
their friends and coworkers, to raise funds.
An honest advice
The parish priest seriously recommends the
contribution to the Building Fund to all that spiritualy belong
to the Buna Vestire church, as a moral obligation and
spiritual respect towards the Church where they asked and
received Holy Sacraments.
The Church is not like a social club or a cultural
organization with a membership fee, It is the place for the
beginning (birth) and ending(death) of every Christian’s
process of salvation. We would like to be able to build the
new church with the help of those mentioned above.
