Are loc in prezenta H2SO4 la cald (80 o C) pentru a favoriza formarea „DIMERULUI” CATIONIC (in caz contrar are loc simpla<br />

aditie a H2SO4 la izobutena). Expulzarea protonilor produce, regioselectiv, alchene cu un numar dublu de atomi de carbon.<br />

Daca in amestecul de reactie de mai sus este prezent izobutan, are loc transferul intermolecular de ion de hidrura de la<br />

atomul de carbon tertiar al izobutanului, generand un alcan cu structura unitara si carbocationul tertbutil.<br />

C-3: POLIMERIZARI prin mecanism cationic<br />

In conditii mai energice si in absenta vreunui alcan, „DIMERUL CATIONIC” ataca o alta molecula de izobutena, s.a.m.d.
