THE KOALA MYSTERY

AT WESTBROOK COURT

One fine day about 10,950 days ago, Mama K was living contentedly on a Bayside beach in

Melbourne Australia… Her life was filled with sun, sea and sand and her favourite happy

place was the bustling South Bank listening to moody jazz of the Mooven’ and Groovin’

Orchestra echo across The Little Big City.

All was going well but for one little thing… Mama K is actually a bit of a rebel and if

everyone else turns right, Mama K will always turn left... And so that is how it came to be

that one-day Mama K blinked her long lashes toward the whoosh of the wind of change and

found herself sometime later in her new home in the beautiful Golden Valley of

Herefordshire, a stunning county on the border of England and Wales.

From her gilded perch she squinted her short-sighted gaze across the Valley and saw that

the glistening dew drops in the apple orchards and the gentle swaying in the wheat fields

and the glinting river snaking onwards and the hazy high Summer mountain tops, all had a

different shimmer than the twinkling blue ocean that she once knew, but she loved it all

the same and so set about making it her home.

After Mama K had created, collaborated, and curated her eclectic rural idyll, she invited her

much missed Australian furry friends to her Cute New Place for a visit.

Mama K’s bestest friends are (in absolutely no order of preference at all)

Kiki the Echidna – Prickly temperament but with a hidden soft heart. Favourite pastime is

barrelling down Hergest Ridge and tripping the flabbergasted sheep over. Loves vegemite

on light rye toast.

Ki Lee. the kangaroo – boundless energy, has played monopoly about 158 times, but only

once without cheating, and can do eleven front double flips in a row across Merbach

Common. Quite partial to a Lamington.

Wobba the Wombat. A bit of a sleepy head who loves her lie in’s but very very smart. So

smart in fact that she is the real inventor behind modern day wifi, fact! Also, Wobba makes

the best pavlova this side of Moccas Nature Reserve.

Platy the Platypus. Ducks and dives to get out of the housework but is an Olympian Hockey

Player so we forgive her because, quite frankly, that is no mean feat for a water dweller.

Platy has been known to have a mischievous streak because she once licked a Cherry Ripe

and then put it back in the packet when picnicking with friends at The Warren.

And so, having received Mama’s K’s warm invitation, her furry friends Kiki, Ki Lee, Wobba

and Platy, all very excitedly booked themselves to come for a visit to Westbrook Court for

Christmas.

After a long long long journey, across three continents, one ocean and twenty-one mountains

(as the crow flies), they arrived at Mama K’s house safe and sound, thank goodness…

After a sit down at the kitchen island with some shortbread and tea, and having swapped

news, they found themselves feeling veeeery tired from the jet lag.

So, they thought they would take a short nap.

zzzzzzzzzz…………….

Well, when they woke up in their cosy bedrooms at Westbrook Court, they looked out of the

windows and all the land that their sleepy eyes could see, was covered in piles and piles of

deep white snow.

Well of course being from hottish Bayside Melbourne they had never seen snow before, and

the very sight gave them all the joy and all the giggles…

So, just for fun, and donning their warm onesies, they jotted some “hike and seek” notes to

their hostess and then ran guffawing into the cold whiteness, jumping and cartwheeling all

over the big snow mounds, shrieking with delight at the snowflake heaven…

But oh no and oh dear, as dusk fell, they took a wrong turn at the cherry tree on the

driveway … and disappeared into the snowy drifts and sadly have never been seen since…

Well now Poor Mama K is beside herself with worry… she has looked and looked and looked

some more and just found the notes from her furry friends tucked under their pillows…

And this is how it comes to be, that Mama K needs YOUR help…

Only you, dear reader, can help reunite Mama K with her furry friends so they can enjoy

their long-awaited holiday together again….

Solve the puzzle in each haiku, to help Mama K find her furry friends hidden around the

gardens at Westbrook Court… Now the snow has melted, it should be easy peasy…
