Sing It On!
Sing It On is an American TV show produced
by John Legend, which is available on
Netflix, 5USA or My5.com. Sing It On follows
five of America’s best A Cappella
groups through their ICCA championship
journeys. The five groups are:
The Nor’easters from North Eastern University
No Comment (NoCo) from the University of
Illinois
All Night Yahtzee from Florida State University
AcaBelles from Florida State University
Pitch, Please from North Eastern University
Sing It On is what I’d call ‘real life pitch
perfect’ but better. I’d highly recommend
the show to anyone who likes Pitch Perfect
or music (especially A Cappella).
Is technology really as bad as
they say?
You hear many people, particularly the older generations,
talk about how technology is going to take
over our society and turn us into ROBOTS! Well
that’s not always the case.
Technology in the past few decades has developed
into a wonderful thing that can help many people
keep fit. The new FitBits have been strapped to the
wrists of many students in this school; monitoring
their steps, heart rate and even sleeping patterns. I
personally think the new smart wrist bands and
watches will help students focus better in school as
they will have better sleeping pattern and will be
more prepared for the day ahead. Take 5 minutes to
go and look at buying one. Not all technology is
bad.
people think this, Zoe! However it is important to
use technology in a responsible manner.
GCSE Results at Our School
We’ve done it again! For the past few years at The Cotswold School, we have seen an increase in
GCSE results at A* - C grade and this year we saw a 7% increase from last year. 82% of candidates
from our school received 5 or more A* - C grade results, including Maths and English AND over half
of our candidates received the English Baccalaureate. This bodes particularly well for year groups to
come. While the national media reported that GCSE results across the country had dropped by 2.1%
this year, citing the new, tougher examination regime, The Cotswold School has excelled, clearly showing
its preparedness when facing the challenges of changes to the National Curriculum. It is clear that
students at our school are hard working and, for the most part, committed to their education and doing
well. Aided by the excellent teaching staff and supported by their families, I can truly say that I am
confident that our school will continue to succeed in GCSEs and A-Levels, despite the further challenges
we will face in the next couple of years. - Amy Kelly, Student Librarian, Year 11
Richard Hadfield Leaves BGT Stars Collabro
Since their victory on
Britain’s Got Talent in
2014, Collabro have
had phenomenal success,
signing with Simon
Cowell’s record
label SYCO and having
two top ten albums.
However, no one saw
this coming. Richard
Hadfield decided to
leave the group in May
2016. But why?
Hadfield has admitted,
in interviews since the
split between himself
and the now four piece
group, that he has not
been completely happy
in the group.
However there was a
good reason for Tom,
Jamie, Matt and Michael
to be unhappy in
their situation.
Richard was releasing
solo covers on YouTube
as part of his solo project,
Swingfield, which
the group felt was compromising
them. It’s understandable
that the
four others felt unhappy
with this.
Hadfield told the group
after coming off stage
at the Britain’s Got Talent
final this year (they
were part of the tenth
anniversary celebrations),
that he had decided
to leave the
group. In the following
days, the group sat
down together to discuss
a statement. Richard
is continuing to develop
his musical career
as a solo artist and Collabro
are performing
as a four piece.
I’m glad that Collabro
are happier and are
working on album
three. To be honest, as
Collabro knew each
other for just a month
before auditioning for
Britain’s Got Talent ,
two years together and
four of the five members
getting on well is a
great achievement!
Anime/graphic novels
Well summer happened, and I wasn’t
very active, instead choosing to rewatch
one of my favourite animés,
Yuki Yuna is a hero. Set in a postapocalyptic
society (which they could
have made a bit clearer), it tells the
story of four girls who discover that
they are destined to save the world.
Unsurprisingly, the main character is
called Yuki Yuna. I’d recommend it
to anyone who likes things like Sailor
Moon, or Tokyo Ghoul, as it has
great fight scenes, but also focuses on
the relationships between the characters.
As for graphic novels, I’d heavily
recommend reading DC’s hit series
Bombshells. An alternate universe
version of all the best female superheroes
fighting against Nazi zombies
in World War 2 – what’s not to love?
Also, since it’s independent of the
current DC timeline, they can get
away with whatever they want, and
not get bogged down in continuity
errors. Well that was a fun 148
words! Have fun surviving the new
school year, and I’ll be back next issue.
