Senior hunger
is something
this food bank
knows too well.
Seeing the
need and toll

are seeking to
alleviate—and
eventually to
eliminate—food insecurity among our
seniors in the nine communities that
we serve in East Hillsborough. One

be a projected 118 million individuals

than half again what it is today.
No matter how independent some

provide for their most basic needs. This
includes the inability to secure enough
food or the proper nutrition. Their
independence will be compromised.

and even family.
and Services could make a difference.
United Food Bank forged a new

The food bank has participated in two gleaning

fruits and vegetables after the growers have

giving to those most in need. UFBPC will coordinate
volunteer groups to glean on its behalf locally.

Born to migrant farm workers from
Mexico, Magali Garcia and her family
are recipients of UFBPC services. Magali
has now been employed with us for
almost two years. Graduating with an
Associate’s degree in the spring of 2021,
she began nursing school in the fall. She
is a valuable addition to UFBPC, being
extremely hardworking, reliable, and
always positive.

to lead a health
literacy class
Gayle Tindle of UFBPC formalized a
diaper program in 2020. Diapers
and other baby items come from
community members, Publix, RMS,
and the Children’s Home. An average
of 88 diaper packs a month have been
given out so far in 2021. An adequate
number of diapers and
changes prevents rashes
and infections, and also
prevents parents from
having to miss work if they
lack the required amount
of diapers for childcare.
