that the car was quite light. They then
realised the rear of the car could also
be raised by lifting on the bumpers.
With a bit of muscle and a big lift they
moved the car onto its side! The car
sat for a few seconds there, but after
a bit of rocking … the whole car tilted
over under a crunching protest,
up onto its roof, upside down!
The poor army guy who owned it
was deeply shocked and close to
tears upon fi nding the car on its roof
the next day. He gathered together a
few sympathetic neighbours to help
him roll it back again onto its narrow
155 SR tyres. The Sonett was quite
damaged – with cracks and breaks in
the fi breglass body, side panel, front
bonnet and roof.
The owner had already put a lot of
money into the car, upgrading a few
things including a new transmission –
unfortunately he didn’t have the spa-
re money to get it fi xed, so it had to
go! It was sold to a used car dealership,
with the owner believing he had
a car to quickly sell and turn over.
There was no effort put into the car
to be sold, and all that they did was
to give it a quick polish to attract potential
buyers.
And so there it sat, outside at the
dealership, listed at a bargain price,
receiving only an occasional interested
passer by. A few times several people
came to have a look, but they didn’t really
know what they were looking at,
were just tyre kickers and not serious
buyers at all. The car was caught outside
in several rain storms, and with
the cracked roof and panels it leaked
quite badly – at one stage the interior
had over 10 cm of water trapped,
sloshing around at the bottom – and
naturally mould began to grow on the
carpet and in the seats. The metal fra-
