Abstract
Building information modeling, or BIM as it is called, has been believed to be the
future in construction. BIM is a work process where a united 3D-model is used. All
involved in a construction project reaches the model. Objects in a BIM-model contain
digital information like descriptions, amounts and classifications, so it is different to
plain 3D-CAD. The model is viewed with a program used on a computer or a mobile
device, like a tablet or mobile phone. In the viewer you have free maneuverability
and ability to manage layers and analyze.
Åhlin & Ekeroth i Linköping Byggnads AB is a local contractor in Östergötland.
Locally, they compete with the nationwide big contractors. To follow the technical
expansion, they are the originator behind this thesis work, which studies the
possibilities of BIM in the production phase.
There are many areas during a construction project where BIM favor, validate and
relieve the work. Åhlin & Ekeroth i Linköping Byggnads AB stand before its first
BIM-project and they are going to use the viewer Autodesk Navisworks Freedom to
inspect the united shared 3D-model. The experience from this premiere project will
decide Åhlin & Ekeroth future commitment.
