Abstract<br />
The report deals with the influ<strong>en</strong>ce of large buildings on the consequ<strong>en</strong>ces of accid<strong>en</strong>tal releases<br />
of ammonia from ice-hockey ar<strong>en</strong>as. Calculations show that an indoor release is not hazardous<br />
to people outside the building. Wh<strong>en</strong> a release occurs outdoors, the risk distance is reduced as a<br />
result of the influ<strong>en</strong>ce exerted by the large building. Wh<strong>en</strong> compared to a release in op<strong>en</strong> field,<br />
the reduction is 50 % or more.<br />
The risk distance from an accid<strong>en</strong>tal release of cooling-<strong>med</strong>ia from an ice-hockey ar<strong>en</strong>a<br />
equipped with modern ammonia-based cooling system is hardly ever more than one hundred<br />
metres. The conclusion is that the rescue services, wh<strong>en</strong> planning, need not anticipate any severe<br />
injuries to people exposed to ammonia beyond that distance.<br />
