DESCRIPTION
Customers may notice that the notebook battery is somewhat deformed or swollen and become concerned that there is a potential safety issue. In some
cases the swelling may cause the seam of the battery enclosure to open.
The HP Safety Council has investigated these issues and determined that there is no safety issue.
OMFATTNING
Information in this document applies to the following HP Business Notebook PCs, Business Tablets, Mobile Thin Clients, and Mobile Workstations.
LÖSNING
Swollen batteries should be replaced and disposed of properly for functional reasons but they do not present a safety issue. When replacing the swollen
battery do not dispose of the swollen battery in general household waste. Follow the local laws and regulations in your area for battery disposal. HP
encourages customers to recycle rechargeable batteries. For more information about recycling programs, see the HP website at
http://www.hp.com/recycle.
Although swollen batteries generally do not pose a safety issue, HP recommends that they should be replaced. For batteries still under
warranty contact HP support to order a replacement. For batteries no longer under warranty contact HP to purchase a replacement.
If the battery is inaccessible please contact HP support or an Authorized HP Service Provider to have the battery replaced.
About cell swelling and causes
Cell swelling is a condition that may occur with polymer cells used in some notebook batteries. Polymer cells are popular in the industry where thin cell
design is desired.
Polymer cells may swell if they are damaged, mistreated, or as a result of the manufacturing process. Swelling can result from prolonged
low voltage, exposure to high temperatures, cell imbalance and more.
Swelling may also occur when a battery failure condition is detected by internal safety devices. The disabled battery may experience
swelling in this state due to the internal safety circuit allowing the cells to discharge to a safe low voltage state.
