and Markets Investing in 2021

A Comprehensive Conversation with Halim Çun on Mutual Funds and Markets Investing

in todays world is among the essential conditions to guarantee their future. Although the

investment is perceived as accumulation, mainly called under the pillow"

throughout our country, the money that is returned in the financial system is increasing

day by day with the various investment instruments offered. Mutual funds, one of the

aforementioned investment tools, are gaining popularity, but still leave unanswered

questions for some of us. If these two words have incomprehensible and complicated

meanings for you, you are in the right place to reverse this situation! In the meeting

organized on February 22, with the joint hosting of Fatih, İstanbul, Şişli and Yeniköy

Rotaract Clubs, we hosted Halim Çun, General Manager and Chairman of the Board of

Gedik Portfolio Management Inc . As the Istanbul Rotaract Club, we prepared his

comprehensive speech, which was moderated by Deha Çun, Secretary of Regional

Clubs, in which he talked about mutual funds and markets and conveyed his personal

advice to the participants about becoming an investor, for the benefit of our other

Rotaract friends. The outline of Mr. Çuns speech in three parts, which started with the

Mutual Funds part, is as follows, we wish you pleasant reading. “First of all, I would like to

underline that what will be explained in this speech are my personal views that do not

bind my institution and do not contain investment advice. Let me start with the famous

investor Soros saying Good investment is boring; The boundaries of trading and

gambling in the investment world are very thin and when people start enjoying them,

the results are generally not good.” “When we are privatized towards our subject, we can

see that mutual funds, related institutions; funds collected from the public, stocks, etc.

“We see that they are portfolios that they utilize in various capital market instruments”.

“Money market funds in which money is valued in short-term debt instruments, debt

securities funds in which it is valued in various debt instruments, variable and mixed

funds in which various assets are valued at variable rates, stock funds in which a

minimum of 80% is invested in stocks, precious metal funds in which gold is used in

products, all The fund basket funds used in these funds, participation funds in which it is

evaluated in Islamic banking instruments, and hedge funds that are evaluated to cover all

these options for qualified investors were examples of mutual funds representing various

investment instruments”. “Factors such as the difference between intermediary

institutions and custodian institutions, keeping the operation processes under constant

control by independent audit institutions, managing the funds by professional teams,

providing easy conversion to cash, and providing a big investment with small savings

make mutual funds an attractive alternative”. The mutual funds that took the historical

scene in 1774 in the Netherlands today exceed 100 trillion dollars on a global scale.
