1-) Tennis is a sport
played with a feltcovered
rubber ball, a
tennis racket, and a
court.
2-) There are many
different kinds of
courts; like grass,
clay or hard court
3-)The goal of tennis is to
hit the ball over the net into
the other player’s court.
When the other player
cannot return the ball, a
point is won.
4-) The game is played with two
or four people. When it is
played with two people, it is
called “singles”, and when it is
played with four people, it is
called “doubles”.
5-) A tennis game has a
number of sets. Each set
has a number of games,
and each game has
points.
6-) The points are counted zero or nil (0), fifteen (15),
thirty (30), and forty (40). When one player reaches six
games, it is one set. If it is a three-set match, the player
who wins two sets first is the winner.
Origin and early years
Tennis was played on lawn courts and called “lawn
tennis” in the early years.
Looking back in the history,
there was a game considered
as one of the earliest versions
of tennis, which was played by
a bare hand, in the middle
ages. Over time, as the
strategy of the game required
strength, the ball began to
hurt the hands of the players.
Then, the players wrapped
their hands. However, as this
method did not ensure
requested protection, the
rackets made of wood were
developed. These wooden
rackets eased the pain, but
distorted the vibration that
was transferred from the ball
to the hand Played for
pleasure at that time, the
tennis turned into a sport
appealing to large masses,
which tournaments were
played for, over time. This was
first started in 1873 by British
Walter C. Wingfield.
Grass tennis is getting more attention. However,
there was no standard set for the rules of the game
and the court, and the tournament committee
decided that the rules did not meet the needs. The
rules created by club members still form the basis
of tennis today.
The reason why tennis became so popular was that it
was one of the rare games that men and women could
play at the same time. Called as lawn tennis, this
game was played not only on lawn, but on all kinds of
surfaces and in indoor areas. However, the name of
the game remained as lawn tennis until 1970s.
Although the people started to call it tennis in short
later on, the International Tennis Federation did not
change the name of the game until 1977. The first
tennis tournament was held in UKWimbledon in 1877.
First Tennis Match
In 1926, the first professional tennis tournament
was held. The first tennis match was played by
British people in Turkey. In the tournaments
organized by British people in Istanbul among
themselves in 1900s, those who won the matches
for three consecutive years were awarded with
the "Wreath Cup", and Officer Suat was the first
Turkish tennis player who was awarded with this
cup.
In 1924, Turkish Tennis Federation
was founded. When the increase in
the interest to tennis was noticed,
domestic and international tennis
tournaments were started to be held.

Serena Williams
Famous Tennis Player
Serena Williams, (born September 26, 1981, Saginaw,
Michigan, U.S.), American tennis player who
revolutionized women’s tennis with her powerful style of
play and who won more Grand Slam singles titles (23) than
any other woman or man during the open era.
What is Serena's famous quote?
"I am lucky that whatever fear I have inside me, my desire
to win is always stronger. You can be whatever size you
are, and you can be beautiful both inside and out. We're
always told what's beautiful and what's not, and that's not
right. I always believe I can beat the best, achieve the best."
The brand that she is
wearing and her opinion
about food
As part of her contract
with Nike, Serena served
as the brand's face for
their clothing, apparel
and footwear. Nike also
designed custom outfits
and shoes that Serena
would wear on the tennis
court.

Serena looks at food as fuel.
"My philosophy is eat to live.
Don't live to eat," she tells
Women's Health during a
Nintendo gaming event. "I
want to have a healthy
lifestyle and, so you know,
[I'm eating] a lot of greens
and mostly plant-based
lately, just super healthy
stuff."
