COASTLINEHISTORICALCHANGEANALYSIS

HaydarpaşaSilos,locatednextto

HaydarpaşaStationinKadıköy,were

builttogetherwiththeportintheearly

1900s.Itsummarizestheobjectivesof

thefarmerwiththesentence“T.M.O.

OfisÇiftçininKaraGünDostudur”

writenonthesilosfacades.The

structuresthatcontinuedtofunction

until2005wereclosedforusein2005

undertheHaydarpaşaPortproject.

Inlinewithourfieldanalysis,wehave

designedaconceptprojectbehindthe

Silobuildingsthatwilfeedtheusersof

theEducationandHealthbuildings

locatedinthecityareaandbringthem

togetherwiththecoastlineand

transform theSilostructurewithinthe

frameworkofpermeableand

sustainableprinciples.

Byunloadingthesuccessivetube

elementsinthesilostructure,we

createdausablehighceilingvolume

inside.

whichwasopenedbytheIstanbul

Municipality,istoremindonceagainthe

deterioratinghistoricaltextureof

Üsküdar,whichwasformedbythefiling

ofthecoastlineandhasbecomeabusy

transportationhub.Üsküdarhasa

uniqueurbantexturethathashosted

manyhistoricalbuildingssincethe

Otomanperiod.

Intheareacaled"MimarSinan

Triangle",wedesigneddiferent

monumentalareasthatwilhighlightand

experiencethearchitect'sstructuresin

oneofthemainmonumentonthe

coastlineandontheothercornersofthe

triangle,inordertocommemoratethe

pioneerofmosquearchitectureandthe

architectKocaSinanwholeftmorethan

375works.Whiledesigningmonuments,

insteadofconsideringthem outof

context,weadoptedaholisticapproach

thataddressestheareabyorganizing

thegreenareasinsideandaroundthe

triangle.

Weweregiven3sentecespairsforustocreatecolagesoutofsome

restrictedimages.

Delighted-Colide

Iinterpretedthesewordsasharmonyandopposition.I

thinkthatthenatureandthearchitecturalworldseem

astheyareoppositeandcolidingatthefirstsight.But

theyactualycompleteeachotherandtheyarein

harmonyinaway.Inthiscolage,Icombinedleaves,

seashels,snailshelsandapavilion.Theyareblended

andcompletedsomehowatthebackground.Iwanted

tousetheelementsofnatureandthearchitectural

worldtogether.Atthefront,thereisaman-made

connectionunitcombinedwiththeeyetextureofabee.

Thatalsoreferstothesameidea.

Thecombinationofthistwo

wordsevokedmeofthebig

ben,thecreationofthe

wholeuniverse.Idepicted

thebigbenwiththeflowersi

foundheavenly.Ialsoused

thehandsfrom theAdam’s

Creation.Iwantedto

representthesetwodiferent

believessuchasthe

physicalandthe

metaphysicaltogether.They

seem liketheyareclashing

andopponentbuttheyarein

aharmonysomehowatthe

sametime.

lookingatthesubject.

Thereisanecosystem andacirculationin

nature,life.Onebeing’slosscouldbethegain

ofanother.Itriedtodepictacaterpilareating

andmakingholesonaleaf.Leaf’slossand

damagecouldbethegainofotheranimals.This

actionandimpactcouldprovidemoresightto

anotherbeing.Caterpilarisamediatorhere,

butitactualyhasbenefitssuchaseating.

handheldwithusingaheatmachine.Afterihadtheshapeiaimed,ispraypaintedthe

handheldwitharosegoldcolour.

cutedtheMDFTilewiththeappropriatemachine.Thenispraypainteditwithblackcolour.

Ididaresearch onchamaeleon’scolorchange.Avideoofachameleonchangingcolor

leadedmetocreateacolorchangingvideowiththereferenceofchamaeleon’scolour

shades.Ireflectedthecolorchangingvideoonthe3layersandexaminedthelight,

shadowandthereflection.

Diferentholesonthesheetscausedvariedoverlapsoflightandcolour.Colouredlight

andshadowchangeswereexperimented.
