Red in Italian means
Ferrari
Ferrari Racing Days at the Brno Circuit will
bring a fully-charged weekend programme
devoted to all vehicles bearing the logo of
the prancing stallion. The programme consists
of six nail-biting races and one great big
surprise.
One highlight to mention is the planned race
of Ferrari and Maserati cars, where Formula
1 vehicles will be on display. These were
the very cars raced in the past by. Michael
Schumacher, Jean Alesi and Niki Lauda,
among others. The climax of this is enthralling
weekend in racing red will be the appearance
of one of Ferrari’s famous drivers. Originally,
Felipe Massa was booked to come, but due
to injury, a stand in is being sought. So, who
knows? Maybe Michael Schumacher will turn
up instead!

Gentlemen (Gentlemani)
We know all there is to know about the legendary
Broadway musicals, but what about the
original Czech ones? Brno’s Studio Marta,
which provides a creative space for drama
students at the Janáček Academy of Music
and Performing Arts, is preparing its interpretation
of the very first purely Czech musical!
The composer Bohuslav Ondráček and lyricist
Jan Schneider have created a musical,
which despite its English title, is not based
on any foreign literary or theatrical template.
The play has been staged by the Frankfurt am
Main Theatre, among others, where the press
made enthusiastic comparisons to a Czech
‘East Side Story’. Studio Marta usually gives
its audience a welcome surprise, so be sure
not to miss out on this musical.

Experience a Night
in the Gallery
See the work of restorers, test your artistic
abilities in the creative workshop, or take
part in the guided tours of temporary and
permanent exhibitions – the offer is open to
everyone heading to the Moravian Gallery in
Brno on 18 September 2009!
Starting from 19.00 in the Governor’s and
Pražák Palace, as well as the Museum of
Applied Arts, will be a series of informal gettogethers
and tours of the temporary displays
and permanent exhibitions with expert commentary.
Visitors will learn about individual
restoration techniques and catch a glimpse of
how monuments and artworks are cared for.
From 20.00, Tony Ducháček & Garage will be
playing at the Governor’s Palace. On the day,
entrance to all displays and exhibitions at the
Moravian Gallery will be free of charge!

G-Force
The comedy action film G-Force is the first
3D release from producer Jerry Bruckheimer.
This spellbinding spectacle tells the story
of a covert programme run by the US secret
service to train animals for military and
espionage purposes.
Its heroes are guinea pigs armed with the latest
high-tech spy equipment, who discover
during the course of the film that the fate of
the world is in their paws. Team G-Force is
headed by Darwin, a responsible and ambitious
guinea pig determined to succeed at all
costs. Other members include Blaster, weapons
expert with a love of all things extreme,
and Juaréz, a martial arts pro, who is adored
by the rest of the gang. The three guinea pigs
are aided and abetted a literal fly-on-the-wall,
Mooch, and the mole Speckles, cybernetics
and information specialist. During their mission,
team G-Force meet myriad other great
characters, for example, the layabout Hurley
and the highly-strung hamster, Bucky.

Moravian Autumn 2009
The 44th annual instalment of the music festival
Moravian Autumn is gearing up to delight
classical music lovers in Brno. This time the
festival is primarily dedicated to 50th anniversary
of the death of composer, whose works
will be honoured.
Alongside the figure of Bohuslav Martinů are
ranged other stars from the classical firmament
– Joseph Haydn, Felix Mendelssohn and
Francis Poulenc, with whom Martinů shared
a love of jazz and neo-classicism in Paris during
the 1920s and the 1930s. The sounds of
these greats will accompany you through the
autumn in Moravia, and help you discern the
hidden continuities between the present and
music of previous centuries.
