guide
overview
This workbook is meant to be used along with the corresponding video sessions you
were given a link to in your email. The videos and this workbook is intended to help you
THINK about the results of your Excellence for Learning report. You will also be challenged
to APPLY the discoveries you make. You will work through how you best communicate
and consider how your style affects you, others, your education and your future
career.
Before you begin, you MUST have the following:
1-2 hours of
uninterrupted
time
computer or
phone with
internet
printed copies
of your report &
this workbook
a highlighter
and a
pen/pencil
Find time away
from others to
go through the
debriefing
process.
The online videos
guide you
through the process.
The link is
in your email.
Even though you
probably don’t
want to, it is important
you print
these items out!
We will be doing
a lot of highlighting
in your report
and writing in
this workbook.
Some things to remember, as you go through your report:

While the report is very accurate, you may find some statements you do not feel are
totally true about you. Feel free to cross out or modify these statements.
You will only get out of this process what you put in to it. The information you learn
today can have a significant impact on your relationships, communication, and work.
Every person is unique, including you. This process is not meant to “pin” somebody to
one particular list of descriptors. However, the research shows that all of us will feel
most comfortable exhibiting the behaviors of one of the four styles we discuss today.
Adapted Style Graph (Graph I)
Your adapted style graph represents how you might currently be adapting your behavior
in order to succeed in your current environment. Adapting is not a negative. In fact,
many times in our lives a job will require that we adapt in order to meet the needs of the
job. For our purposes, we are not going to focus on this graph, because your environment
will change as you become more comfortable in your new situation, develop more
meaningful relationships, move into areas of interest as you hone in on your major, etc.
The truth of the matter is that we typically will fall back on our natural style anyway!
