August 2, two cars belonging to Serbs were also damaged in the<br />

village of Perjasica in the Kordun region (central Croatia). An unknown<br />

perpetrator stole the rear registration plate from the car<br />

belonging to R.S. from Koransko selo in the Barilović municipality,<br />

who has lived in Germany for a number of years, and damaged<br />

the varnish on the hood by engraving the letter “U” with a cross<br />

in the middle. A similar fate befell A.O. from Perjasica, whose car<br />

had Sombor plates (a town in Serbia). The perpetraros engraved<br />

the letter “U” on the hood and the acronym “NDH”. 32 On Sunday,<br />

August 30, at around five in the morning a group of young men<br />

attacked a van with Serbian plates with rocks in the Kolovare<br />

district of Zadar. Croatian police informed Z.K. from Pančevo<br />

(Serbia) in March that his late father’s house at Dobropoljci near<br />

Benkovac had been broken into and the perpetrators had destroeyd<br />

everything in the house. At the end of the year the property<br />

of R.P., a Serb who spends most of the year working abroad, was<br />

destroyed in Murvica near Zadar. Unknown perpetrators drew a<br />

Nazi swastika on his house with the message “We are hajduks<br />

(brigands), we are the Ustasha“ next to it. They also drew the<br />

figure of a hanged man with the word “Chetnik“ next to it, thus<br />

destroying the freshly repainted facade.<br />

/4.2. Damage and Destruction of Religious Objects and Cemeteries<br />

In the night of February 14/15, the Cathedral Temple of St. Nicholas<br />

in Karlovac was broken into once again. The Karlovac Presbyter<br />

Slaviša Simaković explained to Hina news agency that vandals had<br />

broken through a side door, desecrated the altar, liturgical objects<br />

and books. Some of the objects were stolen, others were left scattered<br />

across the temple floor. All crosses were taken and objects<br />

used for the baptism ceremony were destroyed so there could be<br />

no service for the feast of the Presentation of the Lord. In the night<br />

of August 25/26 <strong>2015</strong>, the same temple was broken into again. The<br />

door was damaged and the police said the material damage from<br />

the break-in amounted to several thousand kuna.<br />

Unknown perpetrators stole a 120-kg bell, an object of considerable<br />

cultural and sacral value, from the Orthodox church at<br />

Slatinski Drenovac in Viroviticko-Podravska county. The church at<br />

Slatinski Drenovac is a protected cultural monument.<br />

In the night of August 29/30, unknown perpetrators pried the<br />

door to the Saint Archangel Michael’s Temple in Slunj. The<br />

break-in through the side door caused material damage to
