AN INTERVIEW WITH
SEDA KARABULUT
As a technology group in METU TIMES CLUB, we interviewed Seda Karabulut. As you all know she
is our computer teacher. The interview took place at the computer lab. She answered our
questions:
Students: Hello Seda Teacher. Let us introduce ourselves.
Verda: Hello, my name is Verda. I am in 4-F. I am in METU TIMES CLUB.
Lara: Hello, I’m Lara. I’m in 4-I. I am in METU TIMES CLUB, too.
Gamze: Hello, My name is Gamze. I am in 4-C. I am in the club, too. We are in the Technology
Group.
Verda: Today we would like to ask you some questions. How did you become a technology
teacher?
Seda Teacher: Hi Girls. My name is Seda Karabulut. I have been an ICT Teacher at METU
College for 6 years. I decided to become a computer teacher when I was studying at high school,
actually. My department at high school was Computer Studies. I also studied in the Computer
Department so it was not difficult for me to make a decision about my job. This is why I am a
computer teacher now.
Lara: My mum is a computer teacher, too. Do you like teaching animation to children?
Seda Teacher: Yes, I do. Firstly, I love children and all my students. I am working for METU
primary, secondary and high school and I love all of them. It makes me happy to teach things
related to technology to kids. I feel happy because I love kids as I mentioned before. So, it is a
pleasure for me.
Gamze: Who was your first technology teacher?
Seda Teacher: When I was at high school, I had a computer teacher and her name was Songul
Karabatak. She was my first computer teacher. As I told you, I was a student in the Computer

Department when I was at high school so I had lots of computer
teachers. I keep in contact with some of my former teachers.
Verda: Which technology equipment do you like most?
Seda Teacher: Smart phones, of course … I love smart phones! I
think I am addicted to social media, some applications and mobile
phone tools. I love all of them so I always, always check my social
media accounts and check my applications at home. I love cell
phones, I can’t live without my cell phone. When I sleep, I always put
my phone next to me. It is always with me, sometimes under my pillow.
Lara: Why did you decide to be a computer teacher?
Seda Teacher: Today’s kids, the new generation, know how to use
technology better than we do. Today's kids are born into a technology
and they live in the century of new Technologies. The next generation
will know more than us about technology. When they get older, they
will need technology more and more. They can do a lot of good things with technology. Children
like technology. They love technology for example, computer games, cell phones…etc. so they can
be computer teachers. They will love it. If they like children and technology, then they should
choose to be a computer teacher. However, knowing technology is not enough to be a computer
teacher. Loving kids and being happy with them are also important. You can be a computer
teacher.
Gamze: What are the advantages of the animation club?
Seda Teacher: As you see, we are working on some animation websites, animation tools and
applications for creating animations. Students love creating animations. They learn about new
animation tools and this makes them excited and happy. They are curious about the activities. It
is a pleasure for them. I give them a topic about Eco Schools, New Year or Christmas and
introduce them to the tool to create their animation. Then they work on it and if I like them, I
share them with other teachers. This is a pleasure for me. This is all about our club.

Let us introduce Powtoon and Swift:

POWTOON : By using powtoon, we make videos and posters. Powtoon is a very
good and an interesting programme. Kids can use powtoon easily.You can add
music, photographs and you can write paragraphs.Teachers can make videos, too.
This is the powtoon programme.

SWIFT: I would like to introduce Swift. Swift is a useful programme for kids.
Technology teachers use this programme to teach coding to kids. Swift is useful for
parents too because they can use it in their lives. I can hear you say: “I can do it! I
can do it!” Yes, you can learn and use Swift.
