HILLS PROSPECT PLC IS DELIGHTED TO ANNOUNCE THAT WINE
DIRECTOR COLLETTE WHITTINGTON-BOWERS WILL BE ONE OF THIS
YEAR’S SIXTEEN CANDIDATES WHO HAVE BEEN SELECTED TO ATTEND
THE 2017 CHAMPAGNE ACADEMY COURSE.

At the end of this month, Collette will travel
to France to take part in a fully immersive
Champagne experience lasting a week. This
year's candidates, who she will be joined
by, include: Martyn Zemavicius, Ian Howard,
Lisa O'Doherty, Charlotte Gordon, Sophie
Sturdy, Victoria Mason, Scott Green, Craig
Bonner, Chris Goldman, Tracy Davenport,
Lydia Worsey, Steven Aulk, Geraint Davies
and Rob Dixon.
During the course candidates learn about all
aspects of Champagne through visits to the
different Academy Houses, in the classroom
and through extensive Champagne tasting. The
week long course will include daily tests and
a final exam. Only those making the grade will be
awarded the prestigious Champagne Academy
Diploma and invited to join the Champagne
Academy. The candidate scoring the highest
course mark is awarded the golden magnum
trophy and sixteen magnums, one from each of
the Academy Houses.
Champagne Academy Chairman, Kevin Skeet
said “Choosing the sixteen lucky applicants
was a challenge due to the sheer quality and
quantity of entrants this year.” Kevin added
“Every one of them will be about to achieve
a once in a lifetime experience, courtesy of
all sixteen Grand Marques Academy Houses.
The Presidential House of Champagne Pommery
and the Vice Presidential Houses of Pol Roger
and Louis Roederer will ensure that they
experience what many have described as
a life changing week, they should be incredibly
excited.” Each of the sixteen Houses host the
candidates throughout the week and after
a final exam along with a blind tasting, the
results are announced at a special gourmet
lunch at the 2 star Michelin restaurant Le Parc
at the 5 star Relais & Chateaux hotel Chateau
Les Crayeres.
Candidate Charlotte Gordon said “I can't imagine
a better way to spend a week. Visiting three to
four Grandes Marques a day along with tastings,
lectures, cellar visits and of course enjoying
Champagne! The opportunity to develop
relationships with the principles of each house,
along with the wine makers and of course other
candidates, will be an experience only possible
from attending the course. I expect to return
to the UK with a superior knowledge of the
region, and with memories and experiences
that will last a lifetime. I am looking forward to
applying this new found awareness to my role,
and becoming an ambassador for Champagne
within the UK market.”*
