Summer days in Old Büyükdere...<br />
The neighborhood is bustling...<br />
The kids are wearing their<br />
swimsuits, they are bathing<br />
alongside the pier with their<br />
shovels and buckets at hand. The<br />
mothers are preparing the<br />
vegetables that they will cook for<br />
the evening. The roads where<br />
horse carriages pass through,<br />
streets filled with scents of fresh<br />
bagel from the bakery, days set<br />
up to boat schedules. But one<br />
hour is the most important of<br />
them all... It’s an hour that all<br />
residents of Büyükdere recognize,<br />
19:00 Because when the hour<br />
tolls 19:00, another activity will<br />
rule the streets. The men at work<br />
will disembark from the boat that<br />
comes to the Old Büyükdere Pier<br />
and will embrace their beautiful<br />
wives, fiancés or lovers and<br />
children who came to welcome<br />
them. This welcome is almost<br />
ritualistic and it will live on in the<br />
memories of those who<br />
experienced those days.<br />
And of course, the famous shops<br />
of Old Büyükdere Pier, a pier with<br />
a very unique soul. With its ice<br />
cream shop, coffee shop, tailor<br />
and agent, Old Büyükdere Pier is<br />
a hub of life in its own right.<br />
The architectural project of Ali<br />
Talat Bey, the Old Büyükdere Pier<br />
was opened in 1853. It was put<br />
out of service in 1984 because it<br />
was left behind the coastal<br />
causeway that spanned the<br />
Bosporus coast. Today, with a<br />
restoration that will bring that old<br />
spirit back to life, it is being<br />
opened for service again with its<br />
sea view terrace, wide halls and<br />
foyer area as an activity spot that<br />
has everything in one of the best<br />
locations around the Bosporus.<br />
