Özdemir Altan 1931 yılında doğdu, İstanbul’da
yaşıyor. 1956 yılında İDGSA Resim Bölümü Zeki Faik
İzer Atölyesini bitiren sanatçı; 1963 – 1965 Paris
Bienalleri başta olmak üzere çok sayıda uluslararası
ve ulusal etkinliklere katıldı, kişisel sergiler açtı.
Yazar ve konferansçı ve küratör olarak yaygın bir
isim yaptı. Türkiye’de ilk küratörlük eylemi olan
Avni Lifij sergisi (1968) bu anlamda ilk girişimdir.
Modern, avangard düşünce, Pop Art ve özellikle
Postmodern’i Türkiye’de ilk geliştiren kişi oldu.
Altan, doğa vergisi yeteneği ile her yapıtında
yeniden yaratan tükenmez enerjisi ile dinamik ve
üretken bir kişiliktir. Sanatçı yaptığı eserlerde
değişik doku, strüktür eleman, malzeme, sanat
görüşü, ışık vb. aykırılığın rastlantısal olarak bir
araya gelmesiyle oluşan sanat anlayışını
benimsemiştir. Böylece 1988’den bu yana gitgide
netleşen bir düşünce ile sanatsal espasın
birbirinden farklı kavram, köken, yapı ve
mantıkların birleşmesiyle oluştuğunu uç noktada
kanıtlamak amacıyla rastlantısal buluşma
yöntemini geliştirmiştir. Bu görüşünü daha radikal
bir davranışla uygulamak amacıyla kent
haritalarının ilçe ve mahallelerini birbirinden
habersiz olarak çeşitli kişilere uygulatmıştır.
Soyağaçları, Altan’ın anne tarafının
soyağaçlarından esinlenilerek 1989’da doğmuş olan
sekizinci dönemidir. Sanatçı, bu dönemini şöyle
açıklamaktadır ; “Soyağaçlarının basitliği ve
yalınlığı, sanatçının gücünü gösterebilmede
konunun etkileyiciliğinin yardımcılığına
sığınmaması geleneğinde tam bir biçilmiş kaftandı.
Böylece, bu bana bir hiçten bir alem yaratmanın
kapılarını açtı.”
Bu sergide sanatçının Soyağaçları serisine ait son
dönem eserlerini göreceğiz.
Özdemir Altan was born in 1931, lives in Istanbul.
In 1956 the artist graduated from Zeki Faik İzer’s
atelier in IDGSA Painting Department. Besides Paris
biennials in 1963 – 1965 he participated in
numerous international and national art activities,
he opened many solo exhibitions. His name
became famous as a witer, lecturer and curator. He
was the first curator who attempted to organize an
exhibition in Turkey; Avni Lifij’s exhibition in 1968.
He has been the first artist who improved and
represented some western ideas such as;
modernist, avangarde approach to Pop Art and
specially Post Modernism in Turkey.
Altan proves that he has an endless, dynamic,
energetic personality with his productive natural
talent. In his creations, he appropriates an art
understanding that coincidentally mixed
incongrous elements such as; different texture,
structure elements, materials, art view, light etc..
With clearer thoughts and ways from 1988 on, he
developed coincidental mixing method to prove
artistic space is made up of different concepts,
backgrounds, edifices and logics that meet in
extreme points. Aiming to practice this opinion
with a radical action, he had made several people
implement the states and neighborhoods of city
maps unaware of eachother.
The Family Trees, is the eight period of the artist
which came out in 1989, inspired by the family
trees of his mother’s side. The artist explains that
period with these words; “The plainness and the
simplicity of the Family Trees were cut out for the
tradition which is not seeking help from the
impressiveness of the subject to show the artists
power. Thus, this opened doors to me to create a
universe from scratch”
With this exhibition we will see the latest works of
the Family Trees period by Özdemir Altan.
