Mokena Fire responds to 213 calls of service in June

The Mokena Fire Protection District responded
to a total of 213 calls of service for
the month of June, including:
• Emergency medical services - 94
• Auto accident response - 16
• Request for citizen assist - 27
• Carbon monoxide alarm - 5
• Commercial fire alarm - 18
• Fire investigation - 1
• Gas leak - 4
• Mutual aid response - 20
• Residential fire response - 8
• Structure fire - 1
• Commercial trouble alarm - 19

Police Reports
Walking while intoxicated leads to arrest
Jerome A. Dahlberg, 20,
of 14778 Massasoit Ave.
in Oak Forest, was charged
July 5 with illegal consumption
of alcohol by a minor.
According to police reports,
and officer on patrol
came across Dahlberg in the
11400 block of West 195th
Street. Dahlberg was reportedly
stumbling along the
roadway when the officer
spotted him.
The officer approached
Dahlberg, who was reportedly
swaying back and forth
while standing still, had
slurred speech and the officer
could smell alcohol on
him. Mokena Fire Protection
district was called to assist,
but Dahlberg refused treatment.
He was then placed
under arrest.

Another aspect of the legislation, Zoellner
said, is that any agreements municipalities
previously negotiated with companies for
these services will “sunset” in 2020.
“So, we’re not going to get that revenue
[from past deals] going forward,” Zoellner
said.
He said major carriers, such as AT&T,
have already contacted the Village about
placing equipment in Mokena.
“[But] I don’t think we’re going to see a
ton of activity, at least initially,” he said.
A positive of this legislation, however, is
that is “positions us to really be at the forefront
of the next phase of the 5G movement
on cell communications,” Zoellner said.
He said the ordinance needs to be adopted
by the end of the month.
“If it’s not locked in, then the carriers can
come in and pretty much do what they want to
do without any input from us,” Zoellner said.
