Standout Student
What is one thing most
people don’t know about
you?
I really enjoy reading
when I get the chance.
STARKEY
Katie Schneider
Lincoln-Way Central
senior
Katie Schneider was picked as
this week’s Standout Student
because of her academic performance.
What is one essential you
must have when studying?
To be able to focus better,
I have to have music playing
in the background. It helps
me not feel stressed and is
easier for me to understand
the material.
What do you like to do when
not in school or studying?
I really enjoy hanging out
with my friends and going to
play sand volleyball in the
summer.
What is your dream job?
For as long as I can remember,
I’ve wanted to be a
physical therapist for people
with special needs.
Whom do you look up to and
why?
I really look up to my
parents because they have
taught me so much about
how to be a good person and
they support me with all of
my decisions.
Who is your favorite
teacher?
This year my favorite
teacher would be my physics
teacher, Dr. Baran. He
not only helps with school
but he helps with life too. He
cares a lot about his students
and he has helped me a lot.
What’s your favorite class?
My favorite class is my
gym class because I’m in the
adaptive P.E. class, which
means I’m a leader to the
life skills students. That
class just makes my day so
much better because of the
students I’m with and the
other leaders.
What’s one thing that stands
out about your school?
The people that make up
the school. The staff and students
are really kind people.
If you could change one thing
about school, what would
it be?
I think it would be really
cool if we had a sign language
class or club. I would
take that because it would be
really cool to know how to do
that.
What’s your best memory
from school?
My best memory is being
with my student at Special
Games. It’s such a great experience
to be part of.
Standout Student is a weekly
feature for The Mokena
Messenger. Nominations come
from Mokena area schools.
WHY YOUR HOUSE HASN’T SOLD
Your house has been on the market now for five
months. You haven’t had any offers. You haven’t had
any showings and it’s not attracting any interested
buyers. What’s wrong?
In a scenario like this, the reasons your house hasn’t
sold typically fall into the following categories.
PRICE-every house will sell eventually, but only at a
price someone is willing to pay. You’re probably asking
too much. LOCATION-Run down neighborhood?
Too close to train tracks or busy highway? Poor
school district? High crime rate? CONDITION-Needs
painting inside and out? Leaky plumbing? Roof and
furnace need replacement? These are all factors to
consider and ask a licensed professional.
Marron said.
Further review of Lincoln-
Way D843 was previously
cut short due to a tornado
warning in Frankfort on
June 26. All administrative
reports were postponed attributable
to the absence of
a representative, but Marron
stated: “No action was made
because there was nothing
that required attention,
which is always good news,”
Round it Up
A brief recap of other items discussed at the July 11
D161 meeting
• The updated enrollment report disclosed a total of
2,266 registered kindergarten students, which works
out to 18-22 children per classroom.
• Enrollment trends from 2015-16 highlighted an
enrollment fluctuation in D161.
• Additions made to the Preliminary Budget revealed
the upcoming school year is comparable to the
previous, aside from the Transportation
Fund.
• Future meetings were scheduled for 7 p.m. August 8
and 22 at the Mary Drew Administration
Center.
