With all of the preparations<br />

for the beginning of<br />

the 2019-20 school year<br />

at Glenbrook North and<br />

Glenbrook South completed,<br />

the District 225 Board<br />

of Education’s Monday,<br />

Aug. 12 meeting was a<br />

study in brevity.<br />

The district’s new superintendent,<br />

Dr. Charles<br />

Johns, told the board that<br />

earlier in the day he’d<br />

dropped in on the start of<br />

practice for the GBN boys<br />

soccer, girls volleyball<br />

and boys golf teams and<br />

planned to check out their<br />

counterparts at GBS the<br />

following day.<br />

GBN Principal Dr. John<br />

Finan reported his school<br />

has 11 new certified teachers<br />

and six interns, and<br />

ROUND IT UP<br />

A brief recap of Board of Education action on Monday,<br />

Aug. 12:<br />

• Board members approved the appointments of<br />

Katherine McKeown and Dimitra Balaskas to the<br />

support staff at GBN and the appointment of David<br />

Bajjalieh to the GBS support staff. The board also<br />

approved the resignations of GBS special education<br />

teacher Kelly Baker and GBN special education<br />

instructional assistant Debra Presser.<br />

• The board authorized a payment of $919,503.28<br />

to cover accounts payable and a payment of<br />

$995,508.54 to cover payroll for the second half of<br />

July.<br />

school has 14 new certified<br />

teachers and five interns.<br />

Both said their schools are<br />

fully staffed with teachers,<br />

but they expect to hire<br />

some instructional aides<br />

and paraprofessionals to<br />

augment their faculties.<br />

superintendent for<br />

business services, gave a<br />

thumbnail sketch of the<br />

proposed Board of Education<br />

standing committee<br />

meetings scheduled for the<br />

2019-2020 school year.<br />

The board has three<br />

standing committees: Finance,<br />

Facilities and Technology.<br />

for its aggressive look and<br />

often painted with teeth on<br />

the nose cone.<br />

football and cheerleading<br />
