Notes to the conductor
• It is recommended, though not required, that you prioritize treble instruments on the
first and second parts and bass instruments on the third part.
• There are a number of notes in the horn parts that do not match the other instruments
of the same part. These changes are intentional and were made to avoid extending the
range higher than written C5. Small noteheads show the original pitch and may be
played by more advanced horn players.
• The Anvil may be replaced with a found percussion instrument, as long as it is a brightly
clanging metallic object. It should sound similar to a railroad crossing bell.
Ghost Town Triptych
All Aboard the Hoodlebug may be performed by itself, or may be performed as part of a set of
three pieces, each inspired by a part of the historic area of Pennsylvania’s Blacklick Valley. All
three movements are available from Murphy Music Press as part of the Beginning Band
Adaptable Series. If performed as a set, here is a suggested ordering:
1. All Aboard the Hoodlebug
2. Laurel Run
3. Buena Vista Furnace
