and the Bio-Cosmological Source of Music
A Public Special Performance and Concert for the
1 st International Witten Seminar on Philosophy and Medicine, and
3 rd International Seminar on Biocosmology, Witten/Herdecke University
“Aristotle, Biology, and Medical Anthropology in the 21st Century”

New and synthetic forms of thinking in science can lead to a more profound and
encompassing understanding of the human being, nature and the cosmos. They can
have close relations to central concepts of Aristotle and renew those in a totally new
form. Likewise, new and synthetic forms of art can lead to a new artistic detection and
creative expression of inherent relations between life and the cosmos. In music, this
can result in a modern renewal of the Greek capacity for harmonious movements,
expressing inner contents of the cosmos that consciously or unconsciously form the
source from which great composers draw the wonderful spiritual and emotional
contents of their work. In this special performance and concert an example of such a
new art will be shown in the dancing art of Eurythmy as founded by Rudolf Steiner,
performed to and interpreting the inner content of music by Johann Sebastian Bach,
Franz Schubert, Arvo Pärt (Pärt: only piano and violoncello) and Johannes Brahms.

Neue und synthetische Formen des Denkens in der Wissenschaft können zu einem
vertieften und umfassenderen Verständnis von Mensch, Natur und Kosmos führen. Sie
können enge Beziehungen zu zentralen Konzepten von Aristoteles aufweisen und diese
in einer ganz neuen Form erneuern. In ähnlicher Art können neue und synthetische
Formen der Kunst zu einer neuen Entdeckung und zu kreativem Ausdruck von inneren
Beziehungen zwischen Leben und Kosmos führen. In der Musik kann das in einer
modernen Erneuerung der altgriechischen Fähigkeit zu harmonischer Bewegung
ausbilden und inneren Gehalt aus dem Kosmos zum Ausdruck bringen, der bewusst
oder unbewusst die Quelle bildet, aus der große Komponisten die wunderbaren
spirituellen und emotionellen Inhalte ihrer Werke schöpfen. In dieser Spezial-
Aufführung mit Konzert wird am Beispiel der von Rudolf Steiner begründeten
Tanzkunst der Eurythmie eine solche Kunst gezeigt, die zu Musik von Johann Sebastian
Bach, Franz Schubert, Arvo Pärt (Pärt: nur Klavier und Violoncello) and Johannes
Brahms aufgeführt wird und ihren inneren Gehalt durch Bewegung interpretiert.
