A Historic Site
Throughout the course of a century, ExxonMobil Baton Rouge
has grown from a refinery on 225 acres of cotton fields to one
of the largest and most integrated petrochemical complexes in
the world.
ExxonMobil Baton Rouge has been essential to the economic,
political and social landscape of the community, the industry and
the nation. Through jobs provided by the refinery, technological
innovation that supported various national defense efforts, and
thousands of volunteer hours, Baton Rouge employees and
retirees have always been a vital part of the community.
Baton Rouge Complex
The ExxonMobil Complex consisting
of a refinery and chemical plant,
occupies 2,250 acres of land and
employs approximately 5,500
employees and contractors.
The Baton Rouge Refinery’s
capacity – processing
more than 500,000
barrels per day of crude
oil and producing 3.6
billion gallons of gasoline
annually – makes it one
of the world’s largest
refineries.
Operational excellence

energy efficiencies, is responsible
for ExxonMobil Baton Rouge’s
impressive output capacity.

ExxonMobil Baton Rouge also has the unique advantage of
versatility in operations, output and capacity that comes from
integrated facilities within close proximity. The refinery and

chemical plant are conveniently located near the Mississippi
River, an important conduit for the distribution of refined
products.

Safety and Environment

contractors and neighbors in the

ExxonMobil’s Baton Rouge facilities
have been recognized with numerous
performance awards. The Baton
Rouge Refinery received the Governor’s
Award for the Environment, while the
Baton Rouge Chemical Plant receives
the American Chemistry Council’s Energy
Efficiency Awards annually. Additionally, the
refinery was recognized by the Environmental
Protection Agency as Energy Star-certified for its
energy efficiency in operations.
Community Outreach
ExxonMobil Baton Rouge employees, retirees and their families
spend approximately 40,000 hours annually volunteering
at a variety of nonprofit agencies, schools and community
organizations. The company supports their volunteer efforts
with annual contributions and matching grants totaling millions
of dollars each year.

ExC!TE is aimed at

involvement. ExC!TE provides a vehicle for
informing and encouraging interested employees, retirees
and their families to support community projects through
individual and group volunteerism.
• Ambassadors Committed to Education (ACE). One
component of the ACE program partners employees with
public schools in neighborhoods close to the chemical
and refining complex to enhance math and science
education. Another component of the program is
Teachers and Engineers for the Advancement of
Math and Science (TEAMS). This new program
links early-career ExxonMobil engineers with
math and science teachers to support
classroom learning. Both programs
leverage ExxonMobil Foundation
opportunities for students and teachers.
• ExxonMobil Community Outreach
Team (EMCOT). EMCOT is comprised
of employees from ExxonMobil Baton
Rouge’s northernmost plants in the
Alsen, Baker and Scotlandville areas
(the polyolefins plant, plastics plant,
resin finishing plant and specialty
compounding center). The group actively
works to coordinate community and
school outreach aimed at improving
the quality of life for neighbors.
Additionally, ExxonMobil employees, retirees and
their families actively support Junior Achievement
of Baton Rouge and the Capital Area United Way. We
are proud to be the single largest corporate supporter of
our local United Way, providing direct services to a 10-parish
area through its member agencies.
Local Economy
ExxonMobil is the largest private
employer in the parish and secondlargest
manufacturing employer in the
state of Louisiana. Each ExxonMobil job
supports nearly seven additional jobs in
the state, translating to more than 41,500
Louisianans and their families who are impacted
by our business.
ExxonMobil also contributes to the local economy through
taxes and remains the single largest taxpayer in East Baton
Rouge Parish. Statewide, ExxonMobil pays more than $100
million in taxes each year.
