A Historic Site<br />

Throughout the course of a century, <strong>ExxonMobil</strong> <strong>Baton</strong> <strong>Rouge</strong><br />

has grown from a refinery on 225 acres of cotton fields to one<br />

of the largest and most integrated petrochemical complexes in<br />

the world.<br />

<strong>ExxonMobil</strong> <strong>Baton</strong> <strong>Rouge</strong> has been essential to the economic,<br />

political and social landscape of the community, the industry and<br />

the nation. Through jobs provided by the refinery, technological<br />

innovation that supported various national defense efforts, and<br />

thousands of volunteer hours, <strong>Baton</strong> <strong>Rouge</strong> employees and<br />

retirees have always been a vital part of the community.<br />

The <strong>ExxonMobil</strong> Complex consisting<br />

of a refinery and chemical plant,<br />

occupies 2,250 acres of land and<br />

Major Units and Facilities<br />

<strong>ExxonMobil</strong> <strong>Baton</strong> <strong>Rouge</strong> also has the unique advantage of<br />

versatility in operations, output and capacity that comes from<br />

integrated facilities within close proximity. The refinery and


chemical plant <strong>are</strong> conveniently located near the Mississippi<br />

River, an important conduit for the distribution of refined<br />

products.<br />

<strong>ExxonMobil</strong>’s <strong>Baton</strong> <strong>Rouge</strong> facilities<br />

have been recognized with numerous<br />

performance awards. The <strong>Baton</strong><br />

<strong>Rouge</strong> Refinery received the Governor’s<br />

Award for the Environment, while the<br />

<strong>Baton</strong> <strong>Rouge</strong> Chemical Plant receives<br />

the American Chemistry Council’s Energy<br />

Efficiency Awards annually. Additionally, the<br />

refinery was recognized by the Environmental<br />

Protection Agency as Energy Star-certified for its<br />

energy efficiency in operations.<br />

Community Outreach<br />

<strong>ExxonMobil</strong> <strong>Baton</strong> <strong>Rouge</strong> employees, retirees and their families<br />

spend approximately 40,000 hours annually volunteering<br />

at a variety of nonprofit agencies, schools and community<br />

organizations. The company supports their volunteer efforts<br />

with annual contributions and matching grants totaling millions<br />

of dollars each year.<br />

and their families to support community projects through<br />

individual and group volunteerism.<br />

• Ambassadors Committed to Education (ACE). One<br />

component of the ACE program partners employees with<br />

public schools in neighborhoods close to the chemical<br />

and refining complex to enhance math and science<br />

education. Another component of the program is<br />

Teachers and Engineers for the Advancement of<br />

Math and Science (TEAMS). This new program<br />

links early-c<strong>are</strong>er <strong>ExxonMobil</strong> engineers with<br />

math and science teachers to support<br />

classroom learning. Both programs<br />

leverage <strong>ExxonMobil</strong> Foundation<br />

opportunities for students and teachers.<br />

• <strong>ExxonMobil</strong> Community Outreach<br />

Team (EMCOT). EMCOT is comprised<br />

of employees from <strong>ExxonMobil</strong> <strong>Baton</strong><br />

<strong>Rouge</strong>’s northernmost plants in the<br />

Alsen, Baker and Scotlandville <strong>are</strong>as<br />

(the polyolefins plant, plastics plant,<br />

resin finishing plant and specialty<br />

compounding center). The group actively<br />

works to coordinate community and<br />

school outreach aimed at improving<br />

the quality of life for neighbors.<br />

Additionally, <strong>ExxonMobil</strong> employees, retirees and<br />

their families actively support Junior Achievement<br />

of <strong>Baton</strong> <strong>Rouge</strong> and the Capital Area United Way. <strong>We</strong><br />

<strong>are</strong> proud to be the single largest corporate supporter of<br />

our local United Way, providing direct services to a 10-parish<br />

<strong>are</strong>a through its member agencies.<br />

Local Economy<br />

<strong>ExxonMobil</strong> is the largest private<br />

employer in the parish and secondlargest<br />

manufacturing employer in the<br />

state of Louisiana. Each <strong>ExxonMobil</strong> job<br />

supports nearly seven additional jobs in<br />

the state, translating to more than 41,500<br />
