ANDREW
PUSBACH
Interview
Could you introduce yourself to our
readers?
My name is Andrew Pusbach, I am a
fine art photographer from the
beautiful state of Colorado. I was
born and raised in the state of Florida,
dramatically different from Colorado.
I believe this provided me a greater
appreciation for Colorado’s
landscapes. Upon first seeing
Colorado through my own eyes, I was
full of wonder and excitement.
Adventure lurked around every
corner.
I work primarily in black and white
photography; I often find colour to be
too distracting. I have been making
images since arriving in Colorado a
little more than five years ago.
Whenever I am out hiking in the wilds
of Colorado, you will be sure to find
me with a camera and tripod in
hand. I love being out in nature, as
far away from mankind as I can get. I
enjoy the feeling of peace and
solitude that nature offers and I
always try to convey that feeling
through the images I create.
Looking at your photographs. I feel
intrigued by your style of composition.
Its commanding & could you add few
words on it?
I will try to describe my process as best
I can. It is hard to put into words
because so much of it is done
subconsciously. I had to ponder over
this question for a while. I like to work
spontaneously. I may have a specific
destination in mind, whether it is a
specific lake or trail, but I’m open to
other options that I may stumble upon
during my journey. The destination isn’t
really all that important to me. I never
have a specific image in mind,
preplanning, at least for me, is
restricting.
When I find a scene that excites me,
I will spend a while just observing. I
watch how the potential subject and
background interact with one another
and the natural light. All the while

pondering over how the scene makes
me feel. I mentally break the scene
downinto smaller elements to control
the chaos of the natural landscape
and while doing so, focus on what
excited about the scene in the first
place. Simplicity is something that I
strive for in my work, images that are
quiet and subtle, inviting you in,
encouraging you to stay a while and
enjoy the peace.
Black and white photography is my
preference. It makes more sense to
me, I see in black and white. Colour
just feels foreign. Contrast, texture,
shape, lines and positive and negative
space are what speak to me. In most
circumstances, I find colour to be too
distracting. I say in most cases,
because I do have some colour
images, but they are few and far
between.

One greatest achievement & one
important lesson you’ve learned
being a photographer?
As far as lessons go, I would have to
say that coming to the realization
that I wasn’t locked into only making
images at sunrise and sunset was a
huge for me. Like many beginner
photographers, I was of the
understanding that good
images could only be made in the
early morning or late afternoon light
and everything else was a waste of
time. When I learned that I could
make images at all hours of the day,
yes, even mid-afternoon, I was freed
to really enjoy photography and
make some images that I am very
proud of. Images I would have
otherwise, never made. Now, a few
years later, I hardly ever shoot at
sunrise or sunset
anymore.
I consider this next one a lesson and
an achievement. It was a little more
than 2 years ago, I was looking at the
works of Michael Kenna, Toshio
Shibata, Clyde Butcher, Peter
Steinhauer and many others and I
realized that my
images were lacking an essential
element. Me. They were not
representations of what I thought was
beautiful and compelling, they did
not convey my photographic voice. I
had been making images that
thousands of people had made
before me.
Following rules of composition made
by others, that locked me inside of a
creative cage. Generic, cliqued,
been there done that. I was bored
looking at my images. They didn’t
represent me. I realized that I needed
to do something. I needed to change,
to re-evaluate what motivated and
inspired me to make images.
The image shouldn’t be about the
colour of light at sunrise or sunset,
about the perfect reflection or cloud
formation. The image needs to be
about the mood, about the subject
and how it interacts with its
surroundings and the light illuminating
it. It needs to be about how the scene
makes you feel. The image needs to
be more than just a recording of what
was before. Coming to this realization,
is one of my greatest
accomplishments.
Few words on the post-processing and
color selection techniques in your
pictures?
When processing my images, I use
Adobe Camera Raw and
Photoshop 6. I make minimal
adjustments in Raw. I love the clarity
slider, especially for black and white
images. It helps bring out so much of
the contrast within the scene. I make
a few little contrast corrections and
some noise reduction. I then open the
image in Photoshop to do the majority
of my editing. I love Photoshop
because you can work in layers, so you
are never damaging the original file
and layers offer so much control over
your selections. Once in Photoshop, I
do some spotting/cloning for any dust
spots on my sensor, I do some further
contrast adjustments, a little

dodging/burning, black and white
adjustment layer and finish up with
some sharpening.
What is your gear and how important
are they for you?
I’m not really a gear junky;
however, my gear is very important
to me. I have spent a lot of time and
money testing out various cameras,
lenses, tripods, filters, bags, so on and
so forth. After much trial and error, I
found the perfect setup for myself.
It’s important to find the right gear for
your style of shooting. Focusing on the
scene
before you can be difficult when you
are fussing over your equipment. Your
camera should feel like a natural
extension of a limb, not some
cumbersome tool you have to lug
around. In regards to gear, I have
been using a Canon 5D Mark II for
quite a few years now. I use two lenses,
a Canon L series 16-35mm wide angle
and an L series 70-200mm zoom, I find
this combination most effective for my
style of shooting. I have had my eye
on the Canon 17mm tilt shift lens for
quite some time. I love the options it
provides for perspective and depth of
field control. Hopefully one day I can
make the investment. I use two neutral
density filters for the occasional long
exposure. I work with a carbon fiber
Manfrotto tripod combined with an
Induro pan head. One cannot
overstate the importance of a good
camera bag that fits all of your needs.
I use a Click Elite pack. It’s perfect for
those long days of shooting, it holds all
of my gear, plus it has an option for a

water bladder and food storage.
enthusiasts.
What do you consider your greatest
achievement?
Picking up a camera and pursuing
photography. I grew up drawing and
spent the majority of my life making
pictures with a pencil in hand. I never
really had any great appreciation for
the drawings I created. There was
always a disconnection between my
artistic vision and the pencil in my
hand. I could never recreate on
paper, the image in my head.
Growing up in Florida, a place
without mountains, valleys or glacier
fed streams, always made want to
draw scenes of ominous mountain
ranges and quiet valley streams
because they excited me. They
seemed so mysterious, dangerous and
exciting. But I was never satisfied with
the end result on the sheet of paper
before me. I found myself more and
more dissatisfied with drawing as my
life went on. I picked up my pencil
less and less often, until I got to the
point where I put down my pencil for
good. This of course left a hole in me.
I no longer had any artistic outlet. This
frustrated me. Until, a few years later, I
moved to Colorado and decided that
I should pursue my artistic vision once
more. Not with a pencil, but with a
camera in hand and a landscape as
my sketch pad.
Any secret / advice for aspiring
youngsters and enthusiasts in
photography?
I have three primary pieces of advice
that I think all budding photo
1)Make photos for yourself. We all like
to share our work on one social
media platform or another, we all like
to receive some praise for our, but that
should be a secondary concern. Your
first concern should always be how
you feel about the image. If you love
the photo, then ultimately, that’s what
matters most. Now, I’m not saying that
you shouldn’t be open to advice and
critique. Always be open to both. They
will help you grow as an artist and help
you look at your work more critically.
2)Expose yourself to a diverse range
of photographers and photography,
even genres that you don’t have an
interest in. There is always something
to be learned. Analyse and critique
the hell out of the work from artists you
admire. Identify what is so
compelling about their style. Social
media is a great way to get
acquainted with many phenomenal
photographers. Personally, I use
Facebook the most, not to share my
images as much as just meet new
photographers from all over the world.
3)Ask as many photographers as many
questions as you can. This may be
intimidating at first, but one of the
fastest ways to learn is to seek
knowledge and advice from learned
pros and amateurs alike.
4)Don’t lock yourself in a creative box.
Learn the rules of photography, gain
an understanding of all the
photographic does and don’ts, but

don’t let them control your artistic
vision. Rules are made to be broken!
Pablo Picassso once said, “Learn the
rules like a pro, so you can break them
like an artist.”

SACHIN
UPADHYE
Tell us a little about yourself.
I come from a beautiful green city
Belgaum from North Karnataka. Here
i am actively involved in business of
manufacturing art canvas. I did my
studies in mechanical engineering
but soon realized it was a big mistake.
Creativity is what gives me satisfaction
, and i never fail to manage time
for photography and art for the happiness
it offers.
How did the passion you have for
photography develop?
I remember playing with my dad’s SLR
camera as a child. I was always
fascinated by cameras and taking
pictures . Later we had a point n
shoot camera which i used for a
while. It was only when i was 19 yrs old
i got my first SLR Nikon FM10. The control
on an SLR camera gave me the
required
freedom. My interest in paintings
helped my photography as well. I was
always a good observer and
capturing those frames was the next
best thing.
Other Than Photography what do
you do actually?
Apart from photography I also paint
and have my shows every year. I am
also involved in business of
manufacturing art canvas. I also
enjoy long drives , music and sports.
Photography is about creating,
exploring and trying to develop skin
and attain a sense of style for your
images. What is it about photography
that you enjoy most and how do
you think you will further your career
over the next few years?
If you observe life around and find it
interesting, you crave to capture it
, be it on canvas or with a camera
, it’s like reliving those visuals again.
And if there is honesty in what you
do, your
personality starts reflecting in your
work, which can be looked as ‘your
style’.
I enjoy photographing anything and
everything but my favourite subjects
are people. I love connecting with
people through my camera. I don’t

see photography as just a profession
, It’s a way of life i wish to live. I just
hope i get more opportunities, shoot
more interesting personalities, and
able to travel experiencing life that
inspires me.
If you could describe your
photography in under a sentence,
what would it say?
mystifying and passionate....
Finally, any advice for aspiring photographers?
Be observant , look for details , carry
your cameras everywhere and keep
clicking as many pictures. Photographs
will teach you more than
photographers, so study good images.
But always try and be at your original
best .

NIMIt NIGAM
a Delhi Based Photographer
NIMIt NIGAM
Interview
Could you please introduce yourself?
My search for something beyond paints and
canvases got its rest in my 3rd year of graduation,
and I started clicking frames in spite of
painting them. The year 2010 when I got my first
‘DSLR’ and gradually learning and exploring
through this new fascination of mine, I started
clicking through varied subjects like landscape,
portrait, festivals, start trails, flora and fauna etc.
This new fascination of mine had now become
my passion and was hence chosen as a field to
work upon. After Completing My graduation in
Fine art I worked as a Photography and
Videography Volunteer on India’s First ever
Photo Festival “Delhi Photo Festival” Under
some very well-known Indian
Photographers like Dinesh Khanna, Prashant
Panjiar etc.

How did you start
photography and what
inspired you to take up
photography?
I became an Artist by chance.
My father used to take photos of
my
brother and mine when we were
small. I never used to click so
much but took only 10-11 shots
when I was 12 year old and
after that i got my first digi
camera canon Ixus 710 and started
clicking pictures in my 3rd year
during the course of my graduation.
After completing my
graduation, Photography
entered into me like Blood and
then there was no going back
after that. After completing my
graduation in fine arts I am working
as a
Freelance photographer from last
4 years. It won’t have been possible
without
unconditional support by my family
& friends. They always
encouraged me so much at
every moment.
What does it take to make a
good photograph?
Patience and Three Important
Things. Light, Your Composition
and Subject.
Which photographers inspires
you?
There are many Photographers
whose work Inspires Me.. But if I
have to take few master names
than it’s “Steve McCury, Raghubir
Singh, Sir Ansel Adams, Henri
Cartier Sir, Raghu Rai Sir, Hengki
Koentjoro etc.”
One place you all always want to
visit for
Street Photography?
Ahh its Difficult…I love to
visit all possible streets of world.
So that I can capture them in my
camera. Choosing 1 is really
difficult for any photographer.
how to cut those right side over
exposed area.
Tell us something about your best
shot and share the story behind
making of the picture?
I don’t think I have clicked yet.
But yes I have few of my favorite
shots. Love my “Lotus Temple –
Night Contrast” most. Clicked during
photowalk organized by KLIK,
photography community of Delhi.
I went to lotus at night 2 times before
but never got perfect night
shot of lotus in black and white.
But this time I went there for just
this 1 shot. I planned so many
things i.e. what settings should I
use, what aperture should I use,

what aperture should I use, how
to get perfect reflection, how to
cut those right side over exposed
area. Before going these kind of
shots you have to be ready for
takeout from nothing. I took 4-5
different exposures shots so that I
get variety of exposures shots and
from those I can easily take out
one perfect. In digital photography
world Processing is also very
important. Your editing can ruin
your frame and your time so you
should be careful with editing.
And in black and white you have
to be very careful with balanced
contrast, blacks and whites bcoz
these 3 things give life to your
black and white picture…
The Best achievement /
Compliment you have
received so far?
Achievement: Won International
Ramadan
Photography Competition 1st
Place at Architecture
Category. Best Compliment by
my very two good friends and
one my Idol too Vicky Roy and
Chandan Gomes “You have 1 kid
inside.
Never let him Die b’coz that kid
make your photos
different”.
How important is it for a
photographer to “connect” with
his subjects to bring out their true
self?
It’s Very Important to Connect
and Understand your Subject.
Only then you will know what and
how you want to convey your
Message to your Viewer.
Any Secrets/Advice to aspiring
Photographers?
I’m still on a Learning stage but
can give two simple suggestion
don’t Start Follow any Photographer
Style. You are 1 out of Millions
so make your own style and
technique. Start exploring what
you like most and then experiment
with it. And please don’t
start your photography journey
doing Photoshop or editing.
Hence, first make your frames,
subject and use of light strong
then go to software’s like Photoshop
or HDR’s…Make your eye be
your viewfinder..

Focused, Balanced, Humorous and
optimistic. I am very thankful to my
family and God for what I am.
Could you please explain your unique
style of photography?
Photography – I never thought I would
grow such deep roots into it, What I
like about photographs is that, they
capture a moment that’s gone
forever, impossible to reproduce.
Photograph is not done just with a
camera. My style of photography is
I try capturing people in a way they
haven’t seen themselves before.
When people see their photographs
by me, they tell me ‘is that me!.That
moment is priceless for me. I think this
is my unique style.
How do you conceive a thought to be
then metamorphosed into one
beautiful photograph?
This an epic question that every
photographer must ask himself
before the shoot. I generally dream
a lot about people, nature, abstract
ideas. Once dreamt these ideas float
around, and when I find the moment
matching it I just go for it. Sometimes
I create the environment which I
dreamt of and take pictures. I do
experiment a lot. Sometimes I click
50+ pics just for that one beautiful
photograph. The Constant urge to
deliver good photographs drives me.
What inspires you pursue and keep up
in this genre of photography?
See things differently, this is what that
makes me pursue this genre. We see
ourselves in mirror so many times in
a day; the effort to see differently is
what I do.

How do you stay away from the pack,
when it comes to wedding style?
Understanding the Couple, their
dreams of how they want to be
captured. Finally it’s them who are
getting photographed. I try to
capture their essence to getting
married, the path they have travelled
through. End of day when they see
the pictures all the memories are seen
through the pictures.
Any Secrets / Advice to aspiring Street
Photographers?
Just let your imaginations run wild.
Always observe things when you walk
by. Yes you may see the same streets,
lights over a 100 times but there might
be a moment when you would strike
the cord and capture the same old
thing in a totally new perspective.
Creativity is within you and you need
to bring it out and challenge yourself.
Believe in yourself and the way
you see things, once you have a
strong feeling about it then you have
crossed the half way point to capture
a beauty.

How long you have been in the field of
photography?
Though we have started clicking around
2 years ago with a DSLR, we have a passion
for photography since our childhood.
As we both are very good friends and
have many similarities between us and
similar passions in our lives, we came
together to thrive on into this field.
What initially interested you into
photography?
The beauty of nature and the lives of people
around us have fascinated us.
Observation of the celebrations and
emotions of the society inspired us to take
up this profession. Especially in our city,
there is a beautiful beach. Every morning
we used to go there with camera along
with us and click the sunrise and the life
around the beach. Finding
different places every day and
capturing the beauty of it and the
emotions of people there have stirred up
our interest much towards this field. We
found this is the right medium to express
ourselves to the world.
What would you say more important Good
knowledge/ Good Equipment?
Both good knowledge and good equipment
are important. But comparatively,
Knowledge of composing the picture,
balancing elements, framing, cropping,
rule of thirds are the most basic
knowledge in this field. Changing
the camera settings faster as per
the light, we have to click the subject
as fast as possible is very important
one in our view as a travel
photographer. Though we have
a good equipment but no good
knowledge doesn’t make any sense
and doesn’t differ from an ordinary
to a professional.
Which photographer do you look up
to and why?
This one is a very difficult question for
us. Everyone has their style of composing
and framing as per their genre
may be wedding, fashion,
travel, wildlife etc. But, as we intend
to ecome travel photographers, we
love the clicks of Hari Menon, one of
the most renowned travel
photographer in India. The way he
chooses the subject and the background,
the way he deals with the
sunlight was really amazing. We love
the way he captures the expressions
and emotions of the people on the
street. That makes a huge difference
between him and the rest.
And we also follow Arko Datta, a
famous
photojournalist. The clicks of him at
the time of tsunami in 2004 are

eathtaking and made the whole
world cry. They both are always the
best photographers in our world.
What genera of photography are
you most interested in?
We love photojournalism which is
the only genre that explains a story
in a single picture. The innocence of
kids, the affluence of rich, the misery
of poor, the serene relationship
between
a mother and her child, the
sufferings and emotions of the people,
the colors and contours of nature
and the brilliance of life can
be explained as a story only in this
genre.
Especially we are mostly interested
in travel photography as traveling
is our hobby since our childhood.
Clicking while
travelling makes our mind fresh. We
usually forget the whole world while
clicking during a journey. That is the
reason why we made Travel
Photography as our genre.
Would you say photography is a
hard line of work to get it?
Yes, of course it is difficult to get
into this field. As the times have
changed, the society is digitalized
and everyone has a good knowlthe

edge about the latest developments
of this field today, there is a lot of competition
these days and competition
is even stronger in the field of photojournalism.
This field requires sheer
hard work, unperturbed patience,
unclenched passion and creativity are
the three weapons which puts one
ahead the rest.
If you could work alongside any one
photographer who would it be?
We would love to meet and work with
the top photojournalists all over the
world. Everyone has their own style
and
creativity so that we can learn many
new things from different people…
But our dream gets fulfilled if we could
have a chance to meet and inter-act
with Clark Little and Hari Menon.
What goal are you working towards
within your photography and when will
you know you have reached it?
Though in our opinion… there isn’t any
Permanent Goal in photography, as it
is a continuous process towards perfection,
for now we aim to become
one of “ the Best-ever Photo Journalists”
by
becoming the Chief Photographers in
Nat Geo Traveler Magazine. We wish
our photos be published in the eminent
magazines like yours. We keep on improve
and assess ourselves daily to
bring out the best in us.
Do you find it hard to turn down a day
planned with your family at last moment
because of a job put toward
you?
We will not find it hard because we
always put our passion above our
engagements in life.

Interview
Describe your Band in few
words?
Blue Horizon is a Rock Band
which started in the August of
2011 in Dehradun. It is a 5
piece band which plays
music not bound by any
articular genre. We are inspired
by artists like dream
theatre, Guthrie Govan, Creed,
Guns ‘n’ Roses , Linkin Park ,
Red Hot Chili Peppers and the
list goes on. Though we are not
anywhere close to them but wes
try and learn from everything
we do. What we like is more of
melody based stuff which has a
particular concept and
attention grabbing melodies.
When and why did you start
playing?
The Blue Horizon was officially
Formed in the August of 2011,
although we did start jamming
together from May 2011

How often and for how long do
you practice?
We normally practice on
alternate days for 3-5 hours
per session, practice sessions
also depend on the type of
event and its urgency.
our spots and started playing.
Initially it was tough, but
then with practice and determination
the band started to fall
into its place, which has now
become an idol for many other
artists in our city.
What are your songs about?
(What specific themes do they
cover?)
The Blue Horizon basically is
an Alternative Rock band; we
focus on melody based music
that has a positive vibe in it,
which is good enough to bring
smiles to people’s faces and
moments of joy in their lives.
Thinking back to early
childhood, What was your experience
with music for the first
time like?
Music for us is like Food or
air, it has been so since we
have gained conscious. For each
member the main focus is the
music we build. It gives us a
reason for our existence.
Where did you meet your group
first and how did you all come
together.?
We first met in April 2014 and
it was a casual meeting. We all
had a zeal for music and
finally we collaborated in the
month of May, we all picked up
How long have you guys been
performing?
Its been approximately 3.5
years now.
Finally any advice for upcoming
artists?
Work hard, trust each other
and moreover trust in your music.
God helps those, who help
themselves. Keep Rocking Guys!!
