Board Announcements!<br />
The National board says goodbye to long<br />
time board member David Sung. David was<br />
a quiet and effective Summer Search Board<br />
member for 15 years. His strength, intellect,<br />
and enormous effectiveness will be missed by<br />
everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.<br />
Good luck, David, in Hong Kong and expect lots<br />
of visitors!<br />
Summer Search New York City proudly<br />
welcomes new board members, Ellen Cohen, a<br />
development professional and a researcher at<br />
the New York City Opera, and Will Ketcham, a<br />
Managing Partner of Serafin Partners LLC, an<br />
investment management firm. Will also serves<br />
on the Advisory Council of summer program<br />
partner, NOLS (National Outdoor Leadership<br />
School).<br />
North San Francisco Bay welcomes Liz<br />
Hale as the new Board Chair and replaces<br />
Bob Pallas who will stay involved as a Board<br />
member.<br />
Summer Search Seattle is very excited to<br />
introduce new board member Amy Petri, the<br />
Director of Marketing & Communications at<br />
Sellen Construction in Seattle.<br />
Silicon Valley welcomes new board members,<br />
Andy Poppink and Jeff Wong. Both are<br />
Stanford graduates, where Andy was a captain<br />
of the basketball team and went on to play<br />
professionally overseas. He is currently Senior<br />
Vice President at the Staubach Company in<br />
Palo Alto. Jeff, also a Stanford Business School<br />
grad, is the Senior Manager of Marketplaces<br />
Strategy at eBay.<br />

will transition to a leadership position with<br />
Summer Search National on November 1st.<br />
Current Program Director Debbie Krause will<br />
step up and lead Summer Search Boston as<br />
the next Executive Director. Summer Search<br />
staff member Yudy Muneton ’99 will return<br />
to graduate school and follow her long-term<br />
dream of becoming a health care professional.<br />

Miceli to the team as Program Associate.<br />
San Francisco is sad to lose Alumnus Carlton<br />
Colbert ’97 who will open his own film &<br />
video business, Colbert Productions. Carlton<br />
explains, “My journey with Summer Search has<br />
taught me to be a role model for students…It<br />
also helped me to be a stronger father for my<br />
8-month old son. Summer Search has helped<br />
me create the family that I never had.”<br />
San Francisco also welcomes Regional Alumni<br />

warmth, courage and leadership of Program<br />
Director and acting Executive Director, Chelsey<br />
Coyte, who will be leaving the office, and<br />
bringing the winds of change to…Australia!<br />

Silicon Valley’s Executive Director Kamba<br />
Tshionyi has been invited to join the 2007-<br />
2008 class of Community Leadership San<br />
Jose as well as the CEN Leaders’ Institute.<br />
Congratulations to North San Francisco<br />
Bay Executive Director Jessica Vibberts, who<br />
received the Rimsky Family Fund for Social<br />
Enterprise Award to attend the Strategic<br />
Perspectives in Non Profit Management course<br />
at Harvard Business School. A special<br />
thank you from Boston to Marla Felcher &<br />
Max Bazerman and Barbara & Jim Conen who<br />
have each established scholarship funds to<br />
help support our college-bound alumni, most<br />
of whom are first generation college students.<br />
The Conen Family Scholarship Fund will award<br />
$10,000 in annual scholarships to a Summer<br />
Search immigrant who will be a first-generation<br />
college student.<br />
New York City congratulates Karen Granados (left)<br />
and Juliana Gonzalez for graduating from Middle<br />
College High School at LaGuardia Community<br />
College as the Salutatorian and Valedictorian,<br />
respectively. In the fall, Juliana will attend Ithaca<br />
College and Karen will attend Skidmore College.<br />
