3Long
approaches
This is all about the lie. If you’ve found
the fairway, you need to maintain a
smooth rhythm and use that sweeping
motion to help you hit the target. If
you’re in the rough, your approach needs
to change slightly, particularly if it’s
heavy, to help you get it out. In both
scenarios, be confident the technology in
your hybrid will help you get home with
less effort than a long iron.
Rough: get steep
A steep attack angle will
help you get the ball out
of the rough. Grip down,
stand closer to the ball
and pick the club up
quickly with your thumbs
pointing to the sky to
achieve it.
TRUST THE CLUB
There is no need to go hard at
the ball from the fairway as that’s
how inconsistency creeps in. A
combination of the face material,
graphite shaft and centre of gravity
position will see the ball launch
high and cover the distance before
landing softly.
