TETRA Applications
Introduction
2
NOVEMBER 2004
Traditional PMR applications have been very tightly integrated into the
underlying network technology, with no standards-based or open
interfaces usually offered.
In contrast, TETRA networks offer high-level interfaces that make it
possible to integrate new applications as they are launched.
TETRA systems from any vendor will promise the same basic functions, but
these may not necessarily be available to the same timetable. Nokia has
been the forerunner in many areas, particularly in messaging and data
services, IP packet data, open application programming interfaces and
network security, including authentication and dynamic encryption.
Furthermore, the long experience and close synergies that arise from
providing systems that already operate efficiently, can make all the
difference between simply providing a laboratory demonstration and
delivering a critical communication system ready for use.
Manufacturers can also choose whether to introduce additional functions
according to their resources. The Nokia TETRA system contains a long list
of such additions designed to make communication easier and more
secure.
As the world's most advanced mobile phone manufacturer and a leading
supplier of open standards-based mobile communication networks, Nokia
seems set to continue as the leading open-standard communication
supplier to the police and emergency services for the foreseeable future.
This application catalog identities some software vendors and commercial
applications from a large pool of products aimed at public safety use, and
especially applications that can be deployed on the Nokia TETRA System.

BeanCounter – the complete billing solution
BeanCounter is a fully convergent billing system, adapted for today's and tomorrow's
telecom services . It collects data of any kind, from any source, and can present it on a
single invoice. BeanCounter handles postpaid and prepaid subscriptions, based on
CDRs or in real time. It communicates with all kinds of networks, such as GSM,
analogue, IP and TETRA, and handles all types of data, e.g. GPRS, content, and event
based charging.
The data can be collected from switches, content applications and routers and the data
handling functions cover communication with other systems and the creation of any
output formats. Standard Basset components manage data handling, collection and
forwarding of data within and outside the system, mediation, and rating. BeanCounter
offers extremely high data throughput. Even when installed on inexpensive, standard
hardware, BeanCounter processes 10,000 records per second on each server.
CallGate – billing gateway and mediation device
CallGate is a complete package for mediation. It communicates with all existing
network entities, offers fast data handling, reads and creates any data format, and
provides an easy-to-use graphical user interface, making administration easy.
CallGate acts as a transparency interface between switches and data collecting
equipment like billing systems. It collects CDRs (call data records) from the switches
and converts the data. The CDRs are then forwarded to the billing or fraud system, or
Comptel User & Service Management for TETRA
Comptel TETRA gives the operator up-to-date information on all the active users and
terminals in the network and provides accurate service data and usage reports.
Comptel TETRA automates and harmonises the user, terminal and service management
process and allows network personnel to concentrate on essentials - running the
public safety network in a reliable and controlled manner.
In shared TETRA networks, user management becomes a mission critical process.
With Comptel TETRA this critical task is simple and secure with the privacy and security
policy incorporated with user and organisation data. Comptel TETRA allows users to be
assigned to organisations and terminals to users. By using predefined user profiles,
the creation and activation of services for separate user groups or even positions
inside the groups is simplified.
Automatic information collection and single source reporting enables efficient and
controlled usage. It provides tools to automatically identify unauthorised users and
terminals and tools to minimise fraud and abuse.
Comptel TETRA also enables billing functionality. It rates and reports the collected
usage information according to predefined criteria like user, organisation and
terminal. Automatically published reports provide organisations with information on
their usage and the operator with the ability to charge organisations. Comptel TETRA
does not, however, produce the final bill and ledger functionality.
For emergency agents Comptel TETRA offers a secured and controlled way to query
numbering and user information. This and other all the other functionality of Comptel
TETRA provides operators, users, organisations and other interest groups with high
quality tools to increase the reliability of TETRA networks.

Network Management Solution for TETRA
Creanord Network Management Solution for TETRA provides centralised alarm and
remote management for distributed Nokia TETRA Network elements and surrounding
telecommunication infrastructures. Creanord’s solution uses SNMP Management
Technology, which is widely used among Telecom Service Providers, IT industry and
professionals. The solution is reliable and can be scaled to your requirements.
Low Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) is achieved through the use of a central network
management system, which is easy to install and operate.
Creanord Network Management Solution for TETRA includes a distributed software suite,
called Active Management Operations Center (AMOC) and Intelligent Devices.
Active Management Operations Center (AMOC)
AMOC is a secure, scalable, distributed software suite managing mission-critical
networks and services. It enables visualisation, monitoring and pro-active operation of
networks, using components running on different servers, workstations and laptops.
Intelligent Devices
Intelligent Devices are located near Nokia TETRA switches, TETRA base stations and
other managed network elements such as routers, optical modems and UPS power
supplies. By using purpose built alarm-processing filters, the Intelligent Device identifies
various sources of alarms and prioritises them. Alarms are then delivered to the AMOC
where appropriate actions are taken to restore performance.
Network Management Solution Highlights
• Alarm Management –monitors network devices for alarms, generates unauthorised
access or power loss alarms, and takes action to resolve the problem
• Easy to use Alarm and Event filtering and Notification
• Secure Access - login for real-time view of network device functionality through ports
that are monitored and logged
• Data Buffering - data collected from managed elements is automatically buffered and
forwarded for later viewing, downloading or feeding to applications, including logs of
keystrokes and Call Detail Records (CDRs)
• Multi-Vendor Management Information Base (MIB) expression compiler
• Integration and Programming APIs

optimise data communication over GPRS and other wireless networks. Fully compliant
with today’s Virtual Private Network (VPN) solutions, it allows convenient and secure
downloading of corporate e-mail and documents over wireless networks such as
TETRA, xCSD, GPRS, EDGE and even WiFi. Benefiting both consumer and corporate end
users, it includes optional client software for laptop and handheld device users who
use mobile phones to access the Web. With its flexible configuration, Wireless
Accelerator works transparently with existing Web applications and required no
changes to existing content or applications.
With Wireless Accelerator, VPN-secured data is available wirelessly and no time is
wasted waiting for the data to download. The user has remote access to e-mail,
intranet, ERP applications, and folder sharing over an accelerated wireless link.
Decreased download times mean end-users can improve their work efficiency
immediately.
A single Wireless Accelerator server in the core network can serve several enterprises
with VPN-secured wireless data. The server-only edition is also an easy way to rapidly
serve the mass consumer market. To provide the maximum in acceleration
performance, operators can easily deploy Wireless Accelerator clients, improving
customer satisfaction and decreasing churn.
Larger enterprises may choose to install Wireless Accelerator server at their premises
for end-to-end wireless VPN communications. In this case, mobile operators can offer
to deploy the wireless data acceleration as a turnkey solution.

FM2000 TETRA Portable Alarm System
25
NOVEMBER 2004
The FM2000 is a complete wire free alarm system in a case. Designed for rapid and
effective protection of both property and personnel, the FM2000 uses a unique TETRA
& PSTN or GSM & PSTN signaling system for secure data transmission back to a central
control room. In an alarm condition, an SDS message can be sent via TETRA directly to
one or more remote terminals within a few seconds
A wide range of detection devices are available for the system. Each detection device is
regularly monitored by the control panel and a Class 6 system can also obtain a police
response via the alarm-receiving centre, provided the system installation satisfies
Local/National Police force criteria.
All the detection devices used in this system are wire free and can operate up to 100
metres away from the control panel.
The central control point receiver contains a database that allows details of the
alarm’s location, contact telephone numbers or any other information that may be
required to be displayed when the alarm is activated. The receiver can handle alarms
from a maximum of ten incoming signal paths.

way up to the dispatcher’s imaging requirements.
TICAClient (TICAC) reads the images, image data saved by the digital camera and
documents. TICAKiosk client program is available for computer assisted imaging and
automatic robot camera applications. Data is saved on the computer and sent to the
image FTP server and the TICAServer (TICAS), which acts as the front end for other
applications using the image information sent by field operatives.
TICAServer was developed with the requirements of professional TETRA users in mind
and can be used for backup and secondary image and document transmission
purposes. TICA offers standard cryptography functions with key lengths starting from
256 bits. Images and text are stored in standard format for other application
programs. TICAViewer (TICAV) offers tools for searching and viewing images on the
server. The TICA mobile mug shot system goes one step further by providing a fast and
cost effective way to get images and documents to the field. It also supplies other
images such as tattoos, injuries, and weapons used or even stolen cars.

AVL Application Server
32
NOVEMBER 2004
AVL Application Server is the KNOSOS designed high performance Fleet Management
Server. It collects all GPS and non-GPS data from equipment installed in vehicles – the
KNOSOS K8 GPS unit – processes it, saves it to a database and redirects the information
to its client, the Third Party AVL Application.
The AVL Application Server communicates with vehicles using the Communication
Server. With the AVL Application Server, plus the Communication Server and proper
Communication Connectors, a number of communication technologies can be
integrated, including Tetrapol, GPRS, TETRA, GSM, SMS and Data Call, and analogue 2RP
Radio.
GPS information consists of: accurate date and time, geographical coordinates,
speed, course, quality of the information, tracked kilometers. This GPS information can
be originated in the vehicle according to different events:
• Frequency-based programming of the vehicle
• Distance-based programming of the vehicle.
• Mixed frequency/distance programming
• Event-generated position: Control Point detection
• Direct query from the AVL Application Server
• Emergency situation, obtaining a position each second in the best case.
Several status signals can be generated in the vehicle and sent to the AVL Application
server, together with GPS location information. Distress signals are usually very
important in AVL systems and can be used to trigger emergency GPS tracking.

K8 GPS/TETRA v6 ® is a high performance GPS positioning unit, allowing GPS positioning
of a vehicle and the transmission of its position to a control centre via a TETRA
communication system.
K8 GPS/TETRA v6 has been designed for use with MicroNAV ® software or any other GIS
based software. Data are transmitted in real time using SDS (Short Data Service)
messaging. The K8 unit sends GPS frames drawn on the control centre software map.
Transmitted information includes position, speed, heading and GPS time.
Digital and analogue I/O can be implemented with the unit for remote measurements
and control onboard vehicles.
The K8 unit is connected to the PEI (Peripheral Equipment Interface) of any TETRA
mobile terminal, which acts as a modem. It is currently in use in several systems
connected to, for example, NOKIA TMR 420 and Nokia TMR880 terminals, and can be
programmed to work with any other TETRA mobile terminal. It also enables the serial
connection of any peripheral equipment such as printers, and can be programmed for
dual use with GSM/GPRS systems after integration of the corresponding modem.
Thanks to its small size and compact structure, the K8 unit can be used in the most
demanding conditions. KNOSOS can personalise the software within the K8 GPS/TETRA
v6 in order to achieve the desired functionality and the best use of the
communications channel.

while the ability to view the location of vehicles and personnel on a map allows
quicker and more informed decision making and faster responses. It also allows better
management of critical resources such as expert staff, making it easier for the
dispatchers to direct the experts from location to location as needed.
The Control Officer and Dispatcher always have up-to-date information on the
situation in the field – as there are no coverage black spots, the system works
everywhere, both indoors and outdoors
Location information is secured from unauthorised access and location information
history can be stored and retrieved later. A whole situation can be recorded and
played back for analysis, including the movements of entire crew and all vehicles.
Automatic collection of comprehensive management information reduces the need for
manual inputting and form filling, saving time and improving operational efficiency, as
well as allowing a control room to manage resources in co-operation with other Public
Safety organisations more easily.

MeditSense 100E for Pre-Hospital Applications
The MeditSense 100E allows pre-hospital public safety organisations such as
ambulances, fire brigades and the military to record and send patient diagnostic
information, such as ECG, Sp02 and temperature, to hospitals via a TETRA
network.
Health personnel can use the system to view, print or transmit a patient‘s 12-lead ECG
recording to experts at a receiving hospital, to determine appropriate treatment.
Connecting any TETRA phone allows the patient information to be transmitted using
the system’s serial port. In addition, the system can use any GSM/GPRS/LAN PCMCIA
card for wirelessly transmitting ECG recordings directly to a central server or remote
fax machine.
Rugged enough to withstand water, as well as a fall onto concrete, the MeditSense
100E also provides the highest quality diagnostic recordings with a sampling rate of
2000Hz per channel. The 12-lead ECG can be viewed locally and transmitted on
standard communication networks or using the TETRA network for secure and stable
communications.
Designed to be easy to use, the user interface is currently available in English, Spanish,
Norwegian, Swedish, Finnish and Russian. Other languages can be easily added upon
demand.
The system consists of the MeditSense 100 recorder combined with the pre-hospital
version software interface, tablet PC, and ECG cable and is packaged in a rugged
carrying case.

TETRA Operative Application Server & SDS
Service Gateway
TETRA Operative Application Server (TOAS) significantly shortens the path to operative
data applications. The TOAS system incorporates real-time network information into
an easily usable and manageable package, making development of robust
applications easier.
The TOAS system comes with ready and tested standard applications, and cost
effective customisation. Sample standard applications include:
• SDS Service Gateway - for rapid provisioning of SDS/SMS based data services such as
database queries and field data collection, etc
• TETRA Message Centre - provides reliable messaging between TETRA
users/applications, GSM subscribers and other networks.
The SDS Service Gateway software enables a professional network operator or user
organisation to build managed SDS based services cost-effectively and reliably. The
system provides SDS connectivity (e.g. via the Nokia CIS server), and a centrally
managed environment for controlling and monitoring critical services. The SDS
Gateway is a single, managed entry point to professional information services, which
protects the back-end systems and guarantees availability of critical services. The
system serves as a front-end to data sources and network applications, and provides a
framework for introducing new SDS based services.
SDS-based services are typically queries to a database or system by sending
an SDS with a specific service keyword. The result of the query is returned as an SDS to
the user.

ITIM – Financial Management for IT Services
The ability to supply customised solutions as pre-packaged IT services and products
rather than complete infrastructures is ever more important. The ability of an IT
infrastructure supplier to serve each customer on the basis of their specific
requirements is essential. At the same time, this places significant demands on
agreements, pricing, invoicing, follow-up procedures, and quality assurance for service
components. The problem is not simply to limit IT costs, but also using IT resources
where they can generate more added value and clear customer benefits.
SAS Knowledge Solution, ITIM, is targeted specifically for IT Service Management, a
solution that concentrates the strength and energy of SAS software, skills and
experience – addressing and resolving these business challenges.
ITIM enables efficient control of your finances and operations
ITIM provides a complete IT service management solution that can be tailored to your
specific requirements. This includes:
• A consolidated catalogue of IT services
• Capability to package IT services in customer/account agreements
• Cost control features
• Billing functionality to support multiple billing methods
• Pre-cost allocation, revenue and cost export to general ledger
• Analysis of relevant information and reporting to those who really need it
The ITIM solution delivers both detailed and total information on services, resources,
customers and agreements, so it provides crucial support for your organisation’s
efforts to introduce improvements in such areas as quality assurance, profitability and
resource planning. ITIM comprises naturally integrated functions providing creative
possibilities, continuous maintenance and forecasting simulations.
Analysis and reporting
A web-based follow-up environment enables you to analyse and monitor your
business operations in terms of these dimensions. The EG performs basic and complex
data analyses, has high quality SAS graphics, and can export or publish the results to
SAS servers and other Windows or server based applications. You easily retrieve
information on such key ratios as revenue, cost estimates, profit margins, quantity
produced and billed, and much more.

software products for mobility management.
Secgo's products are widely used in
demanding business sectors, such as the
public, banking and finance, manufacturing
industry and military sectors. Secgo's products
are to an increasing extent part of the
solutions of large IT providers, such as Fujitsu,
TeliaSonera, Atea and IBM.
Secgo provides software for secure
networking and seamless mobility. Combining
strong security with mobility management
and supplying them with easy administration
makes Secgo’s products unique.
Transparency to the end-user means cost
savings both in support and in administration.
Typical applications of Secgo’s products
include:
* Seamless and mobile use of applications
over IP networks
* Continuous reachability of mobile hosts
* Secure remote access for employees
* Secure intranets, extranets and wireless
LANs
* Security and seamless mobility for VoIP
systems
Mobile IP Solution
49
NOVEMBER 2004
Secgo Mobile IP is a mobility management solution. Based on Mobile
IP, the Internet standard for mobility, the solution allows a mobile
host to maintain its network address and all open networking sessions
whenever and wherever it accesses the network. This means fewer problems
with network connectivity, less configuration work, less IT support
work, less stress, and considerably better usability and productivity.
With Secgo Mobile IP, moving in and between different networks with a PC
or PDA is entirely seamless and transparent. The user can maintain his
current application sessions or the reachability of the mobile host when
changing link media, for example from WLAN to Ethernet to GPRS to TETRA IP.
Secgo Mobile IP incorporates several advanced features to meet the demands for
scalability and performance typical of a mission critical network mobility
management system. It relieves public safety professionals from the burden
of configuring and initialising network connections, provides constant
access to mission critical information and leaves more time for the
actual public safety task at hand. Deploying Secgo Mobile IP reduces
communications-related costs, as the user can always use the most
suitable network connections, which are automatically opened and selected by Secgo
Mobile IP client.
The administration of the solution is also easy - constant reachability
and advanced management solutions mean that all configurations and
updates can be made centrally, with no need for action from the end-user.

Waplane – the ultimate mobile middleware
Waplane enables on-line or off-line access to existing official and corporate
information systems while mobilising business applications and databases, with no
changes needed in the existing applications or databases.
Supporting the TETRA standard, Waplane technology allows safe and reliable cooperation
between public organisations, giving access to updated information where
ever it is needed.
Waplane Portal offers an access point to all information systems inside and outside the
organisation, and displays all links needed by the individual user (news, CRM, ERP, Field
Service applications, inventory systems, mail systems, relational databases, external
links etc.). The layout of the portal, the links and the language used can be modified
for each user.
Administrators manage user profiles and application services that are used for
organising the portal through a web interface or Lotus Notes client. User profile
settings can also be modified in the mobile device. Basic authentication is made with
username and password. However, there are various other methods available
(MSISDN, RSA and PKI). Data transfer between Waplane and the data source can be
protected using SSL encryption or VPN.
Software platforms supported are Lotus Domino and J2EE application servers. Waplane
also supports a wide range of databases and mail systems - PIM is a standard function
on Waplane, which can be used with practically any device with a browser.
Waplane features automatic terminal recognition to optimise the layout of the user
interface layout for each device type. There is a Rapid Application Development (RAD)
tool (Query Edit Tool) for easy definition of the data to be mobilised, to define how the
data is presented in mobile devices, and to decide where to retrieve or save the
information on the corporate database servers.

Sunit Car PC
51
NOVEMBER 2004
The Sunit family of vehicle mounted computers is a comprehensive range for
commercial and utility vehicles. Each comprises a separate display and a standard DIN
car radio size dashboard mountable computer unit, or alternatively a separate
universally mountable computer unit. Displays range from 6.4 inch to 12.1 inch.
This modular approach allows the selection of the ideal on-board computer for
virtually any kind of in-vehicle application, including: commercial and utility vehicles,
passenger cars, delivery vans, heavy and light haulage trucks, taxis, buses, public
safety vehicles like police cars, ambulances, fire and rescue vehicles, customs authority
vehicles, pilot and coastguard vessels, defence force vehicles, aircraft and machineries.
Two-way communication using either GPRS or TETRA allows the office and the vehicle
to keep in touch, as well as letting the office monitor each vehicle in the fleet. A
standardised J1939 CAN-bus interface gives access to performance and utilisation data
from the vehicle to measure and compare performance for individual vehicles and
drivers.
Sunit on-board computers fulfill vehicle industry requirements and ISO, IEC and EMC
standards and all user and operating demands have been taken into account. This has
resulted in unique features such as integrated GPS navigation and GPRS
communication, a standard CAN-bus interface to the vehicle’s own control network, a
safety camera system, intelligent guidance of computer start and stop according to
vehicle mode, Integrated TV and Radio receivers, all in a compact, light and rugged
configuration.

than 300 employees. As a pioneer in the
field of wireless alarming, SWISSPHONE
has developed into a leading supplier of
especially for public safety organisations
and government authorities.
In this way SWISSPHONE occupies a
leading position in the research and the
development of complex end-to-end
solutions. We are well aware that
innovations are only as good as their
ability to operate reliably under even the
most demanding conditions. For this we
have our own production, development,
sales, maintenance, repair centre and
operation of alarming networks.
SWISSPHONE Alarming gateway
52
NOVEMBER 2004
The Alarming gateway connects a digital alarm network, based on the existing POCSAG
standard, with the TETRA network. An independent alarm network is often needed in
situations where indoor TETRA coverage is not possible or the organisation cannot
afford a TETRA portable for every volunteer. The Alarming gateway is the link that
combines these two networks.
An alarm is easily generated by sending a status- or SDS-message to the gateway,
which forwards the message to the alarming network. The gateway then checks that
the originator is allowed to generate an alarm and reformats the alarm text into
POCSAG code. It then sends a confirmation to the originator, even if the message could
not get through the system.

TeleControl TC84i+
55
NOVEMBER 2004
TeleControl units are IO-devices communicating with Tetra SDS-TL messages. Their
flexible operation logic allows them to be used in numerous applications.
TeleControl is used directly from your TETRA mobile phone, which eliminates the need
for additional devices. Alarm messages and measurement data are sent as SDS-TL
messages to the appropriate users through flexible routing mechanisms. By ensuring
that the alarm condition is brought to the attention of the users, TeleControl can also
make alarm calls alongside the SDS-TL messages.
Outputs are controlled by commands in SDS-TL messages and phone calls. Any
command can be named according to the purpose it is used for, which makes the
control of remote objects convenient and easy.
Information security is always based on the recognition of the phone number of the
caller or the person sending the SDS-TL message. In addition, a user rights level is
assigned to every user, which effectively prevents users with inadequate rights from
accessing certain features on the device.

Tetral
59
NOVEMBER 2004
Text Messaging or “paging” is one of the most useful features of TETRA technology.
Users often find it more efficient to send short text or status messages that the
recipient can read when convenient, rather than placing a call.
Tetral is a Web portal to a collection of messaging and information services, consisting
of several powerful tools that use the Short Data Service (SDS) for TETRA mobile
communication.
For TETRA users, it is easy to use, provides notifications from office to mobiles, gives
fast retrieval of information and saves both time and money. Tetral’s target customers
include all the professional sectors requiring efficient communication and data access.
People in the office can send notifications to mobile users using a Web-based
application or common e-mail. Mobile users can access their company e-mail server as
well as other information systems over the Internet.
Tetral contains a collection of messaging applications, including Corporate SDS, a
service for organisations needing to send messages, such as alert notifications, to
TETRA mobile stations. Access is restricted with a login interface.
Messaging Centre is a convergent application to access an external mail server,
internal calendars and contact lists through SDS, WAP or Web interfaces. Email-to-SDS
is an interface or gateway where any user can send a regular e-mail message to one or
several TETRA numbers. Tetral also offers access to a wide range of useful information
services, such as flight schedules and yellow pages.

About the company
As well as being the designer,
manufacturer and maintainer of the
DS2000, Vivista is also uniquely placed as
a supplier to the UK Airwave network.
Vivista has been Northrop Grumman’s
sub contractor, within the Airwave
consortium, for more than 3 years.
During this time Vivista has been
responsible for designing and
implementing Airwave functionality
within the Airwave infrastructure, such
as the IP Gateway, the Analogue 4-wire
gateway and the PNC Gateway, the latter
providing Short Data and WAP access
directly to the Police National Computer
from Tetra handsets.
Our unrivalled knowledge of the design
of the Airwave Tetra Infrastructure has
allowed us to optimise the DS2000 to
take advantage of the many Airwave
features available.
61
NOVEMBER 2004
DS2000 Integrated Communications Control
System (ICCS) application
The DS2000 ICCS is the hub of Vivista’s Control Room product range, designed to
provide single touch screen control to a host of integrated subsystems. These may
include conventional and digital radio, analogue and digital telephony, CCTV, voice
recorders, intercoms, door locks and alarms. It can also interrogate internal and
external databases. Over 120 of these DS1000/2000 systems are currently operational
with the emergency services across the UK, representing a major investment in what is
clearly the nation’s dominant Public Safety Control Room communications system.
Control Room Interface Pooling
The DS2000 is unique in that it will enable a customer to make more efficient use of
TETRA system resources through a concept known as ‘Dispatcher Interface (DI) multimode
pooling’. Simple Radio Dispatcher Terminals and other ICCS systems normally
require each user to have a direct connection to a dedicated TETRA network control
room interface.
In the case of the DS2000, DI ports are connected to the ICCS common equipment,
which enables them to be allocated flexibly, based on a variety of criteria and usage
modes. This means that additional facilities are provided or, in certain cases, fewer DI
ports may be required, with an associated reduction in cost.
Control Room and Operator Friendly
The DS2000 provides users with a simple presentation of the voice and data
functionality provided by TETRA or other Digital Radio systems and this functionality is
being continually enhanced to ensure that the full business benefits are obtained.
These include point-to-point calls, Emergency calls, Group and Broadcast, along with
the Status Updates and Short Data Messaging. In addition, the DS2000 will provide a
call sign aliasing subsystem to ensure that resources are displayed in the most user
friendly manner.

mTrack - Shared AVL & Communication Platform
Location and status information are the basis of dispatching, command and control
solutions. Accurate, fast and proper allocation of resources is a challenging task.
Novo’s automated vehicle location (AVL) and messaging solution, mTrack, helps the
dispatcher and field commander to maintain tight control over the fleet and other
resources. Optional telemetry, routing and point of interest functions further expand
the versatility of the solution.
Novo's mTrack can track thousands of vehicles in the same environment. Its versatility
means it can support many different positioning protocols simultaneously, such as
NMEA and TAIP, as well as different communications networks, such as TETRA IP, SDS,
SMS, GPRS and Inmarsat and even different user interfaces - Client/Server, Web or
mobile.
One of the main characteristics of Novo’s mTrack is the possibility of shared use of the
system. A field commander can usually see only the position of his own vehicles and
the system can be used in the same way as any small scale AVL system. However, if
needed, the field commander or another dispatcher can use the same system to get an
overview of the positions of vehicles from many separate organisations operating in
the same area.
The mTrack system can be decentralised or centralised depending on the required
functionality, load and QoS requirements. Components that can be decentralised are:
• mTrack Data Communication server
• Database for communications and location/paging information
• Database for digital maps
