Mission Possible 

Jesus spent His time with different groups of people, at times He preached to the masses 

and others, He spent it intimately with His group of twelve. But when it came to quality, 

it was the twelve that made the difference. This year, SENT has taken on a new strategy. 

Instead of the hundreds and thousands, we focused on the one, tens and twenties. 

Dr. James Kennedy the founder of Evangelism Explosion, states the following: If you were an 

outstandingly gifted evangelist with international reputation, and if, under God you could win 

1,000 persons for Christ every night of every year, how long would it take you to win the whole 

world for Christ? The answer (ignoring the population explosion)? Over 10,000 years. 

But if you are a true disciple for Christ, and if you are able to win just one person to Christ each 

year, and train that person to win another, how long would it take to win the whole world for 

Christ? Answer: Just 32 years. 

All we need to do is to make one disciple every year. 

No wonder Jesus said in Matthew 28:19 'Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations'. 

This is why we have focused on setting up systems of discipleship. In 2015 alone, we have helped 

five local churches implement Next Steps in their congregations. A growing church begins with 

a growing individual. 

Using technology to our advantage, we stay connected to key individuals through online training 

platforms. We provide spiritual support, tools and resources, equipping nationals to continue the 

work long after we have returned home. 

We have reached deep in order to reach wide. As you flip the pages you will see faces and know 

names. They are the ones that will have an impact in their country greater than we ever will.

Six young adults from Cheras, Malaysia were invited for a week-long internship in Tabernacle of Joy. 

They observed church operations, learnt to teach a Bible Study and more.

I used to feel like I could not teach Bible Study. 

Now I am excited about teaching my first 

Unlocking the Bible (UTB) Bible Study! I want to 

study, prepare and use the feedback and advice 

I have received. 

The sessions were jam-packed with spiritual 

food and instructions on how to teach. I have 

more to glean from other experienced UTB 

teachers and will continue to be aware of my 

strengths and weaknesses.

PROJECT 

The Barnabas Project aims to nurture 

pastors and leaders in the region by 

inviting them to attend leadership events 

and activities. 

We were going through a dry season 

and finally I just cried out, “Lord, 

please give me a break!” That night, 

I received an mail from Singapore 

inviting us to Deep Calleth Deep 

camp (DCD). At DCD, we received 

strength, power, vision and 

understanding. We connected with 

various leaders and Tabernacle of 

Joy. Their ministry, prayer, materials 

and teaching has changed our lives.

KALIMANTAN 

Balikpapan & Tarakan, 27 - 30 April 

Apart from gathering the 

harvest, it is as important 

for the church to be able to 

keep the harvest and let it continue 

to grow. There is a great need for 

Apostolic resources that go beyond 

Acts 2:38; salvation is just the 

beginning. 

With that in mind, Tabernacle of 

Joy (TJ) visited the island of Tarakan 

in Indonesia again this year to 

introduce a system of discipleship 

and training that would enable them 

to develop disciples and leaders. 

TJ looks to partner the churches 

in Kalimantan to introduce Next 

Steps. The Next Steps curriculum is 

a discipleship curriculum created by 

Apostolics, for Apostolics. There is 

a module for every believer at every 

stage of growth. Funds are currently 

being channeled into translation 

so that the teaching ministry can 

continue to bless Indonesia. •

THE 

PHILIPPINES 

Lucena & Daet, 15-21 April 

In April, sixteen Saints from 

Filipino Joy Fellowship (FJF) 

departed on a six-day mission trip 

to the cities of Lucena and Daet. 

Over the course of the trip, they 

ministered to more than a thousand 

people and God worked miracles 

in those areas. A total of 24 people 

were filled with the Holy Spirit and 

21 were baptized in the Name of 

Jesus. 

In the city of Lucena, the missions 

team from Singapore helped to host 

a community day and evangelistic 

service in the local church building. 

Families from the surrounding 

communities came and doors of 

ministry were opened. 

FJF also partnered with Sis Liberty 

in prayer and was eventually able to 

send a mission team to Daet. The 

evangelistic service had one hundred 

new visitors, including a blind man. 

He had heard the commotion 

and followed the sounds until he 

reached the gates where the service 

was. He felt his way along the gates, 

eventually finding a gap. His hunger 

drove him to squeeze through with 

the help of a branch and he made his 

way down the steps into the seats. 

He received the Word in faith and 

was born again. •

A Message from Bishop F. Joe Ellis, Founder of Purpose Institute

n behalf of the Purpose 

Institute (PI) Global 

Staff, I want to personally 

commend Pastor Timothy, Leah Lee 

and the Tabernacle of Joy (TJ) team 

for their vision and commitment to 

make apostolic training available to 

other nations outside of Singapore. 

TJ has now operated a very 

successful PI campus since 2008. 

In 2014, they expanded their vision 

and opened a campus in Jakarta, 

Indonesia where the National 

Superintendent Lie Amin is the 

Pastor. 

My wife and I recently had the 

privilege of teaching at the Jakarta 

campus. The passion and hunger 

expressed by the students reflect the 

excellence and anointed ministry 

that is being displayed to them 

every weekend they have classes. 

This single campus in Jakarta 

has the potential of impacting the 

fourth largest nation in the world 

with the power of the Gospel. Only 

eternity is able to record how much 

the ministry of TJ will impact 

world harvest through the Jakarta 

students. Purpose Institute is truly 

honored to partner with this great 

church. • 


PASTOR TIMOTHY LEE took 

on a new role as the Dean of the 

Purpose Institute (PI) Jakarta 

Campus. This has raised the 

partnership with Jakarta to a 

new level as PI instructors from 

Singapore crossed borders to 

equip the church there. This year, 

Tabernacle of Joy made four trips 

to Jakarta to conduct training 

sessions and PI courses. At the 

time of printing, the students in 

the PI Jakarta Campus would have 

completed their eighth module. •

FAMILY ON A 

MISSION (F.O.A.M) 

Five families, nine adults, 10 kids and one purpose – to be a 

blessing as we are blessed. Into the second year of F.O.A.M, 

the team travelled to the city of Iloilo in The Philippines where 

they participated in a feeding program and attended a local 

church service. 

“We saw so many souls, both 

young and old. It made us think 

of Matthew 9:37 where Jesus 

spoke about the few labourers in a 

plentiful harvest. At that moment, 

all we wanted was to be used by 

God. This trip showed us that much 

more work needs to be done for 

His kingdom; we just need to be 

available!

CRUSADE IN 

KUALA LUMPUR 

Saints from the churches all over Malaysia came together for 

the Healing and Restoration crusade in July. We were honoured 

to send a team of 30 as supporting altar call workers. People 

received healing and the Holy Spirit as Rev. Eli Hernandez 

preached the Word of God.

being able to pray 

with them to receive 

the Holy Spirit is 

an addictive and 

humbling experience 

for me. God can use 

anyone in the mission 

field, even if you feel 

inadequate. I can 

never go back to who 

I was and I want to 

continue being sent 

into the field.

LIVING THE 

DIFFERENCE 

In June, youths from Tabernacle of Joy and Filipino Joy Fellowship 

were joined by their Indonesian counterparts in a four day camp. 

Purpose was given and fears were overcome, as these young ones 

recognized God’s divine plan for their lives.

apprehensive when I 

was asked to plan the 

camp, and with youths 

from other countries 

that I have never met. 

However, by the end of 

camp, we all became 

good friends. The Bible 

came alive when a 

camper received the 

Holy Spirit – and I had 

a part to play in it!

Our translation work 

TWO NEXT STEPS modules have been 

translated into Bahasa Indonesia and thirteen 

modules into Bahasa Melayu. Four Next Step 

modules have been translated and taught 

in Mandarin. The books, The New Birth, 

Oneness of God and In Search of Holiness 

by Rev. David Bernard, have been translated 

into Bahasa Indonesia. This project is carried 

out in collaboration with Australia, Malaysia 

and U.S.A. •

Our discipleship structure, Next Steps, has gone from 

local to regional 

THIS SYSTEM developed for Tabernacle of Joy is now being 

used in other nations. Thirty-six Next Step modules have been

Christ, Philippines have completed three modules. Next Steps 

is due to launch in Jakarta, Indonesia, in 2016. •
