PHILOSOPHY<br />

The philosophy behind the <strong>Feuerring</strong> is one of<br />

sociability and enjoyment. You never have to wait for<br />

the perfect flame or temperature – everybody can<br />

start barbecuing food straight away next to a warm,<br />

crackling fire. It’s as natural as it is healthy. Indeed,<br />

the <strong>Feuerring</strong> is a real celebration of fire in its original<br />

form. For centuries, fire pits were the nucleus<br />

of community life. Nowadays, warmth, light, a social<br />

atmosphere and healthy eating have lost much of<br />

their communal meaning. The <strong>Feuerring</strong> is a modern<br />

interpretation of a campfire, enabling everyone to<br />

enjoy the warmth offered by fire and companionship.<br />

ORIGIN<br />

A childhood spent in the heart of<br />

nature against a backdrop of beautiful<br />

scenery. The omnipresent Rigi massif,<br />

the crystal clear water of Lake Zug<br />

(accessible via the same rough sandstone<br />

rocks around the family home<br />

that Goethe passed by centuries earlier),<br />

the tranquil ambience when sailing<br />

on the water, a bracing wind caressing<br />

the skin – all wonderful sources of<br />

inspiration to feed a creative spirit.<br />

These are the origins of Andreas<br />

Reichlin, an artist whose work rests on<br />

the interlocking foundations of visual<br />

appearance, beauty, uniqueness and<br />

virtue. His uncompromising approach<br />

to design, simplicity and perfect<br />

craftsmanship is the key to the direction<br />

his art takes.<br />

Reichlin has harnessed the energy<br />

of nature within his body and soul.<br />

His is a creative, curious mind, always<br />

searching for aesthetics and coherence<br />

in everything. He gives shape to<br />

the forms that his eyes perceive every<br />

day: life as a boundless space in which<br />

to live, to give free reign to great and<br />

wonderful ideas, to make connections<br />

between values and visions.<br />

Here, in this space of infinite possibility,<br />

Reichlin channelled his creative<br />

spirit to design an object. A round form<br />

that unites earth, fire, air and water –<br />

the four fundamental elements of life.<br />

sensual work of art, a sculpture that<br />

seamlessly combines design and<br />

functionality to provide a revolutionary<br />

barbecue experience.<br />

From the earth comes the material<br />

used to create the <strong>Feuerring</strong>. Air<br />

and water both fuel and extinguish<br />

fire. And the fire itself is a source of<br />

DESIGN<br />

“The journey to a perfect shape allied with a passion<br />

for the strength of steel with its intrinsic weightlessness<br />

and all pervading serenity never ceases to<br />

fascinate me.”<br />

Reichlin began his artistic career as a<br />

wood sculptor and explored all kinds<br />

of materials in his work. A study of<br />

shape and form led him to steel, which<br />

he learnt how to control and manipulate<br />

into forms that reflect his search<br />

for perfection.<br />

The philosophy of Andreas’s father<br />

Ernst Reichlin – to view difficulties as<br />

a challenge and an incentive to forge<br />

new paths – has stood the sculptor in<br />

good stead since he was a child.<br />

A health issue became the basis for<br />

finding new solutions. Unable to eat<br />

barbecued food, Reichlin looked at it<br />

as a challenge: he would find another<br />

way to embrace his love of fire.<br />

The design of the <strong>Feuerring</strong> means<br />

you never have to wait for the perfect<br />

flame or temperature – you can start<br />

barbecuing straight away next to a<br />

warm, crackling fire and enjoy tasty<br />

grilled food with no trace of an unhealthy<br />

charred aftertaste. It creates a<br />

fantastic atmosphere and puts everybody<br />

in a good mood. Sit together with<br />

friends, swap food and experiences,<br />

enjoy the companionship and cuisine,<br />

and let your creative juices flow – that<br />

is Andreas Reichlin’s philosophy. The<br />

<strong>Feuerring</strong> is an enduring expression of<br />

the artist’s approach to life.<br />

His efforts resulted in a visionary<br />

barbecue, a design that is a delight to<br />

the eye and appetite alike: an elegant<br />

stainless steel bowl with a jet-black<br />

finish that appears as though it has<br />

emerged fully formed from a single<br />

ring-shaped mould.<br />

PRODUCTION<br />

Meanwhile, Reichlin has passed on his sophisticated,<br />

patented expertise regarding the production of the<br />

<strong>Feuerring</strong>, enabling him to dedicate more time once<br />

again to his passion: sculpture.<br />

By Lake Zurich (at Heiri Gisler), Reichlin’s<br />

design is shaped into the unique<br />

fire bowl using the little known craft of<br />

sheet metal printing.<br />

At Isenschmid AG in Küssnacht, the<br />

ring and bowl are welded together perfectly<br />

to form the <strong>Feuerring</strong>, a singular<br />

creation that unites aesthetics and<br />

functionality.<br />

Heiri Gisler and Isenschmid are exceptionally<br />

skilled partners that ensure<br />

Andreas Reichlin’s stringent quality<br />

standards are maintained in the production<br />

of the <strong>Feuerring</strong>.<br />

This gives the designer and sculptor<br />

time to work on his new ideas.<br />

ABOUT FEUERRING<br />

Andreas Reichlin has managed <strong>Feuerring</strong> GmbH in Immensee,<br />

Switzerland, together with his life partner Beate Hoyer,<br />

since 2009. We employ regional Swiss artisans to create an<br />

original Swiss product by sustainable means. This philosophy<br />

is evident throughout the entire range of <strong>Feuerring</strong> products.<br />

PARTNER THOMAS ACHERMANN<br />

Thomas Achermann has been the contact person for the <strong>Feuerring</strong> in Frenchspeaking<br />

Switzerland since 2014. All <strong>Feuerring</strong> models are displayed at a<br />

spacious garden showroom in St. Triphon, Switzerland. We asked Thomas about<br />

his experience of the <strong>Feuerring</strong>:<br />

How did you discover the <strong>Feuerring</strong><br />

and what are your motivations to work<br />

together?<br />

Andreas and I are childhood friends.<br />

From the very beginning he shared<br />

with me the conceptualisation and<br />

evolution of his grill, a piece of art not<br />

only for the eyes but also a unique culinary<br />

experience. From the start I have<br />

been fully convinced of this product<br />

and my wish is now to promote this<br />

unique, authentic piece of craftsmanship<br />

within the French and English<br />

speaking market.<br />

How do you position yourself with the<br />

<strong>Feuerring</strong> in today’s market and what<br />

does it represent for you?<br />

The <strong>Feuerring</strong> became the center<br />

of my professional life. Very often<br />

pleasure and conviviality erases the<br />

boundaries between professional<br />

activities and social gathering; this is<br />

often demonstrated when customers,<br />

families and friends savour culinary<br />

delights and live enjoyable moments<br />

while sitting around the <strong>Feuerring</strong>.<br />

What are your visions for the future<br />

with the <strong>Feuerring</strong>?<br />

The <strong>Feuerring</strong> offers a large variety of<br />

applications ranging from gastronomy<br />

events to exterior design, where<br />

it can have a positive visual impact.<br />

The customer’s expectations are my<br />

main motivation to elaborate different<br />

solutions using raw materials such<br />

as steel, wood or stone. I feel that the<br />

<strong>Feuerring</strong> will remain an important<br />

part of my life for many years to come.<br />

PARTNER BETTINA SCHOLL<br />

Bettina Scholl first encountered the <strong>Feuerring</strong> while playing the piano with Beate<br />

Hoyer at a concert in Immensee, Switzerland. She quickly realised that the innovative<br />

barbecue experience would certainly find a following in Germany, home of<br />

communal barbecuing. Today, her large showroom in Limburg, Germany features<br />

the full complement of <strong>Feuerring</strong> models. Visitors can test the barbecues as well.<br />

How did you come across the <strong>Feuerring</strong><br />

and why did you strive for working<br />

with the <strong>Feuerring</strong> GmbH Switzerland?<br />

During a visit to Switzerland in 2006,<br />

I caught sight of the <strong>Feuerring</strong> for the<br />

first time. I felt an immediate sense<br />

of elation and a desire to own that<br />

unique piece of art. After more visits to<br />

Switzerland, countless conversations<br />

while sitting around the <strong>Feuerring</strong>,<br />

and ever-increasing enthusiasm, my<br />

cooperation with the <strong>Feuerring</strong> GmbH<br />

Switzerland came naturally in January<br />

2012.<br />

What is your future vision of the<br />

<strong>Feuerring</strong>?<br />

I have a vision … I want the <strong>Feuerring</strong><br />

to be as well known as the Swiss<br />

watch and the Swiss knife. I want<br />

to offer everyone the opportunity to<br />

share in the philosophy of the <strong>Feuerring</strong>,<br />

celebrating companionship and<br />

enjoyment. The <strong>Feuerring</strong> is the future<br />

grill!<br />

What is your current situation, what<br />

is the significance of the <strong>Feuerring</strong> for<br />

yourself?<br />

In June 2014, I founded <strong>Feuerring</strong><br />

Germany Sales and Distribution Ltd.<br />

and established an office and outdoor<br />

display with all <strong>Feuerring</strong> models in<br />

Limburg. The <strong>Feuerring</strong> is a philosophy<br />

of life! It’s such a pleasure to share my<br />

enthusiasm with others and to enjoy<br />

the versatility of the <strong>Feuerring</strong> with<br />

family and friends!<br />

PARTNER BEN AND LILLY KAISER<br />

We met Ben and Lilly Kaiser from Belgium for the first time at the garden and<br />

leisure trade fair in Schloss Wolfsgarten, Germany, in 2013. Their typically cheery<br />

personalities appealed to us straight away. They now have a range of our products<br />

at their showroom in Eynatten for discerning Belgian and Dutch customers. Visitors<br />

are welcome to try out the products!<br />

Ben and Lilly, how did you find out<br />

about the <strong>Feuerring</strong> from your base in<br />

Belgium?<br />

We’d been in the market for a special<br />

and sophisticated fire pit for a while.<br />

We stumbled upon the <strong>Feuerring</strong> on<br />

the internet and were quickly taken by<br />

its beautiful, unique design. And after<br />

barbecuing with it for the first time,<br />

we knew that it was everything we had<br />

been looking for.<br />

How does the <strong>Feuerring</strong> feature in your<br />

plans for the future?<br />

We are making every effort to help<br />

the <strong>Feuerring</strong> gain a foothold in the<br />

Benelux region. We are certain that the<br />

<strong>Feuerring</strong> will make major inroads into<br />

the Benelux market over the next few<br />

years.<br />

How are you getting on with the<br />

<strong>Feuerring</strong> now? What role does it play<br />

in your lives and what are your general<br />

impressions?<br />

We’ve been using the <strong>Feuerring</strong> at<br />

home for over a year and a half now.<br />

We like to barbecue at least once a<br />

week and have spent many hours<br />

lavishing over some wonderful dishes<br />

prepared using the <strong>Feuerring</strong>. In fact,<br />

all of our friends have said how much<br />

they enjoy the convivial atmosphere<br />

that it creates.<br />

The convivial atmosphere of the <strong>Feuerring</strong> and mouth-watering grilled food can<br />

even be experienced on holiday, such as at the magical Schloss Wartegg hotel<br />

in Rorschacherberg, Switzerland, which is picturesquely situated on Lake Constance.<br />

Stefan Hilsdorf, deputy head chef at the hotel kitchen, always looks<br />

forward to using the <strong>Feuerring</strong>. The kitchen specialises in regional, organic cuisine<br />

and slow food, and prepares its dishes exclusively with selected products from<br />

organic farms:<br />

Stefan, what does barbecuing on the<br />

<strong>Feuerring</strong> mean to you?<br />

“I always find it an enjoyable experience<br />

to work with the <strong>Feuerring</strong>. The<br />

options provided by it make it easy to<br />

turn new barbecue-based ideas into a<br />

reality. It is very simple to use, allowing<br />

me to cook several things quickly<br />

and thoroughly at the same time and<br />

achieve the best taste and appearance.”<br />

How do your guests react to dishes<br />

made on the <strong>Feuerring</strong>?<br />

“They are always highly enthusiastic,<br />

both in terms of the <strong>Feuerring</strong> itself<br />

and the great taste of the dishes!”<br />

Do you have a favourite recipe that you<br />

like to make using the <strong>Feuerring</strong>?<br />

“Oh, definitely: whole Lake Constance<br />

zander, grilled vegetables and smoked,<br />

crispy potato cakes. Then I add a fresh,<br />

pungent herb vinaigrette using the<br />

herbs from our own garden.”<br />

Stefan wasn’t willing to reveal the recipe<br />

for the smoked potato cakes, but<br />

We are looking forward to a fantastic<br />

partnership with up-and-coming<br />

Swiss chef Chris Züger (born 1985).<br />

Despite his young age, Chris can look<br />

back on a career already blessed by<br />

success and packed with experience:<br />

sous-chef with Anton Mosimann’s<br />

catering service in London, chef de<br />

cuisine at House of Switzerland in<br />

London, head chef at the Winter Olympics<br />

in Sochi, and head chef at House<br />

of Switzerland at the 2014 World Cup<br />

in Rio de Janeiro. He has a profound<br />

understanding of international cuisine<br />

and loves to refine regional dishes until<br />

they are absolutely perfect. Chris’s<br />

open and positive attitude, willingness<br />

to try new things and fascination for<br />

the creative culinary opportunities<br />

provided by the <strong>Feuerring</strong> certainly<br />

impressed us.<br />

Chris has created a few of his own<br />

recipes for the <strong>Feuerring</strong>; here’s one<br />

for you to try – enjoy!<br />

Scallops<br />

Chorizo, parmesan, rocket, orange dressing<br />

Serves four<br />

16 scallops<br />

salt, pepper<br />

2 chorizo sausages<br />

100g grated parmesan<br />

2 handfuls of rocket<br />

30g bean sprouts (optional)<br />

½ orange<br />

30g olive oil<br />

10g balsamic vinegar, white<br />

salt, pepper<br />

Preparation<br />

Clean the scallops and season with salt and pepper. Remove the skin from the<br />

chorizo and cut into 2-3 cm-thick slices. Place the chorizo in the centre of the<br />

<strong>Feuerring</strong> and wait until the fat begins to run towards the fire. Lay the scallops on<br />

the chorizo fat and sear until translucent.<br />

Distribute grated parmesan evenly around the <strong>Feuerring</strong> (about 6 cm wide).<br />

As soon as small bubbles form, turn over with a thin spatula and leave to dry until<br />

crispy. Mix the rocket and bean sprouts in a bowl and add the orange dressing.<br />

Serve<br />

Place the scallops and chorizo on a flat, narrow platter and scatter the rocket<br />

salad over the top. Break the parmesan into crisps and serve alongside.<br />
