A positive outlook for the European<br />
construction industry through to 2021<br />

The 86th Euroconstruct Conference, held in Paris on 22 and 23 November<br />
last year, confirmed a broadly positive outlook for the period<br />
to 2021. For the first time in many years, in 2017 all 19 Euroconstruct<br />
countries registered an increase in construction output, contributing<br />
to record 4.1% year-on-year growth in volume across the<br />
entire region. The upward trend is expected to continue in 2018<br />
with a 2.8% improvement, followed by a slower average annual<br />
growth rate of 1.6% over the three-year period <strong>2019</strong>-2021. Household<br />
confidence is also expected to improve, fuelling growth in the<br />
new residen-tial sector. And from a structural perspective, while<br />
the construction market volume for the entire Euroconstruct region<br />
in 2021 is projected to remain below the 2007 pre-crisis level<br />
(-15%), when the extreme situations of Ireland, Spain and Portugal<br />
are taken out of the equation the sum of the outputs in the other<br />
countries in the region is expected to mark a return to this level.<br />
