Bernard Racing (http:// wabernard.com/Racing/racing. html), a 4H feature, Holliston Lions chili (www.hollistonlions. org) and a great petting zoo and pony rides by Newfound Farm over at the town green, while also learning about the signs of drug or alcohol abuse through a display by HDAAC (Holliston Drug and Alcohol Awareness Coalition, www.hdaac.org). During stroll day, a new type of fun will take place over at Kamitian field. HABA will host hilariously entertaining bubble soccer, fun for participants as well as spectators in an event from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The concession stand will be open for all to grab a bite to eat. Mall Display Schools Parents on Hidden Drugs Community Initiative to Help Parents Spot Signs of Substance Use By J.D. O’Gara HDAAC, Holliston Drug and Alcohol Awareness Coalition, will join other Metrowest anti-drug community coalitions in presenting “Hidden in Plain Sight,” a recreation of a teen bedroom set up at the Natick Mall designed to help parents and other adults over 21 spot signs of substance abuse. Specially trained “tour guides” from MetroWest community coalitions will walk participants through the display, providing education about adolescent development and common signs of substance use. “The bedroom will be full of 20-30 different “warning signs” including drug paraphernalia and signs of other risky behavior. To go alongside the event, HDAAC will have a much smaller display at the Spring Festival to help parents identify high risk items in their own homes,” says Gina Stucchi, of HDAAC. The display will be open to the public on weekdays from May 9-26, with a kickoff event on May 10, at 10 a.m. Hours are as follows: • Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays: 5-9 p.m. • Tuesdays and Thursdays: 10 a.m.-2 p.m. • Select weekend dates of Saturday, May 21st and Sunday, May 22nd, 12-4 p.m. “During their visit, parents will be hands-on with the display to find hidden items. There will also be a script to go along with the tour of the bedroom. It’s really an awesome display and we are very lucky that the Natick Mall donated the empty store and the furniture to our cause,” says Stucchi. HDAAC’s SpringFest booth will feature drawers full of items typically found in a teen’s room, and organizers will ask parents to pick out five items that may suggest high risk behavior. “The training for Hidden in Plain Sight really opened our eyes to some of the items we may not think of as high risk. Some of the items may not be risky alone, but when multiple items are found, it could suggest high risk behavior.
