- To assist its members in their commercial
FESI’s activities were marked in 2008 by numerous
challenges that have affected our sector and
carved our business in what we can call a critical
macro-economic context both in terms of financial
and economic terms. Below you can find some of
FESI’s key achievements for the past year.
1. First and foremost, 2008 has seen the creation
of some additional working committees in key
areas, such as environment as well as research
and development, as a response to political and
legislative “signal” clearly affecting our sector
in the years to come.
2. Moreover and so as to effectively respond to
a request voiced by FESI’s National platforms,
we have re-established the dormant national
federation working group with a first meeting
hosted by the German BSI, which was very
informative and successful.
3. The consolidation of the existing working committees
has been an additional task FESI has
been successfully covering during this year and
notwithstanding our committees milestones
such as the Trade and Customs, Intellectual
Property Rights and Product Safety, which have
unquestionably constituted as always the bulk
of FESI’s activities – reference is made to the
ongoing antidumping expiry review absorbing
a great deal of energies and / or the specific
european advocacy initiatives in the field of
anti-counterfeiting or finally the successful
product classification under the personal protective
equipment directive – there are some
additional ones, such as the Supply Chain, having
completed the spectrum of FESI’s services
with the promising inclusion of retailers such as
INTERSPORT.
4. An additional sectorial activity FESI has been
concentrating on concerns the winter sector.
The two existing ski committees have brought
continuous success. In the ski boots field, key
gathering with senior governmental representatives
in tokyo have been recently organised
with very promising outcomes especially after
the Japanese civil servants have acknowledged
that the ski industry is willing to reinvest part
of the saving in the local economy should they
agree to lower or abolish the import duties.
5. The remaining key working committees at FESI,
such as for instance the UEFA, represent additional
significant work which will be pursued
in 2009 and expanded to new sports governing
bodies as identified by the working committee’s
team.
As for this year, and resulting from our last gathering
in Vienna, on the 28th of October 2008, we
will continue to invest resources in the same working
areas as the past year with specific attention to
key topics such as the antidumping proceeding,
but with a dedicated attention to the new areas
such as environment.
