Hammershus Ruin
and the Hammershus Exhibition
- experiences and activities
Hammershus is one of the largest castle ruins in Northern Eu-

a bloody, dramatic era of Bornholm’s history. Hammershus was built
by the archbishopric of Lund (now Sweden) which ruled the castle
for more then 200 years. After this, the castle was ruled by the King

the city state of Lübeck from 1525 to 1575. Sweden controlled the
castle for one year (1658) until a local uprising returned the island to
Denmark. Come and experience the unique atmosphere at the castle

The Hammershus Exhibition is located below the actual ruins. The
Hammershus Exhibition depicts the castle in its heyday (c. 1575) and
documents life at the castle, housekeeping activities, leisure activities,
knights, sentencing and punishment, building techniques and materi-

castle, as well as replicas of clothing, weapons, tools, etc.
