“Refl ective spirituality weds contemplative practices and the creative arts,
situating both in the context of peacebuilding. Rarely explored in peacebuilding
practice and scholarship is the space where personal character
and the moral imagination are forged, where compassion is nurtured
and the courage to engage renewed. Refl ective spirituality seeks to
make the space ever more vivid and present to the awareness of peacebuilder.
Over time it shapes a way of being in the world that we describe
as the art of compassionate presence in the midst of profound human
suffering, destructive confl ict and its aftermath. Both personal and
social, this way of being is ultimately a creative and healing presence is
both the cultivated soil and hard-earned fruit of the practice of refl ective
sprituality.”
